So the tiles that are supposed to go on my shower floor are 24"x24" square tiles. My shower is approx. 48x60. I've had bigger showers built for me (place I flipped), and it was just fine using large format square tiles.

The only reason I can think of my current guy insisting on cutting the squares into triangles to property pitch the shower is because he isn't pitching the shower base that he's building. I was an ass and assumed that he was going to pitch the shower base he's building, pitch the concrete so that all would be well with the tile he knew I was using. Is that's what's going on here? I'm guessing it's easier to cut the tiles in triangles rather than pitch the actual shower base, just aesthetically less pleasing.

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been doing a bathroom reno. Both contractors I’ve spoken to said you need much smaller tiles on the shower floor, like 2x2 or 3x3. There’s a lot of angles in a properly pitched shower. We have a center drain on a 5’x3’ shower alcove.
