Hello,C JoycePelham
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your HP LaserJet Pro M283 printer driver. There could be several reasons why the driver is not downloading or working properly after the new update. Here are some possible solutions you can try:
1->Check if your printer is connected to your computer and turned on. If you are using a USB cable, make sure it is securely plugged in. If you are using a wireless connection, make sure your printer and computer are on the same network and the printer’s wireless light is on.
2->Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix any printing or scanning problems. You can download it from the following article by selecting your operating system and clicking Download. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the tool and fix any issues.

Firmware for HP M283FDW
Or alternatively, a copy of the rfu file would also be awesome.

Hi, I've tried searching but I cannot find an older copy of the firmware for this machine. I am running into the dreaded 'Supply Problem' issue and need to downgrade to:
HP_Color_LaserJet_Pro_M282_M285_Multifunction_Printer_series_20200603.exe
Does anyone have a copy of this firmware? Note this is different from the M280-M281 firmware (which doesn't work).
What's going on?
My hp laserjet pro mfp m283fdw has recently updated it's firmware and now doesn't recognise the toner cartridges. They are compatible, not HP genuine.

Change Toner recently?
I had an HP printer that was using third-party toner cartilages, printing fine, then just stopped seeing the network. Even though it could not see the network, everything else worked fine on the printer, test page printed like a champ. after troubleshooting for a bit, i asked the user what might have changed. They said just the toner, so put in the old one, works fine, so went to storage grabbed a second New toner, same issue, tried a third, and that worked. So for whatever reason the chip in the toner knocked out the network only. This was a very frustrating 2 hours.
Have a client with a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw on the LAN that keeps going offline. Typically, I can just rerun the local PC software to sync up with the device, and all is well. But the situation has taken a weird twist - the HP MFP M283fdw can only be seen on the network as a scanner.
- IP address is fine, wether DHCP or static
- Pinging the printer works perfectly from all the PCs, less that 1ms, no loss
- Web UI for the printer at IP works fine
- Searching with the HP driver software finds nothing, even pointing at the specific IP address
- Adding the printer manually (creating a new TCPIP port) times out
- Disconnected printer power, let it sit, powered up… behavior was the same
- Tried updating firmware on the printer
- Uninstalled / Reinstalled HP Driver package
- Temporarily disabled endpoint protection on selected PCs, including local firewall
- Reset printer to factory defaults
- Sprinkled holy water on the auto document feeder
I have no idea what else to try. Clearly the unit may just be defective, but it is less than 4 mo old. So the client wants to be sure.
Has anyone else run into this kind of behavior?
