I don't have experience of this on Lastpass, but I know that 1Password users on Mac need to download the desktop app to install the Safari extension. Something changed at Apple which meant this was the only way to get it to work. Have you tried installing the desktop app? More on reddit.com

The wording of the email makes it sound more like they’re removing the legacy Mac app (i.e.: old version), not discontinuing the Mac app altogether. The latest version available in the MAS is 4.4.0, whereas the latest that can be downloaded directly from LastPass is 4.40.1.

I updated to Ventura 13.3.1 this evening. Now I am also unable to use the Mac App version of Lastpass (4.113.0). I spoke to LastPass Support. They are aware of the problem. As a work around, they suggested I log into Lastpass on the web if I want to use the Safari browser or use a different browser if I want to use the extension. More on reddit.com

August 25, 2025 - My issues was that I attempted to install Lastpass via the Mac App Store (it has a 2.6/5 rating for a reason). After installing it, it did not prompt me to install the Safari extension. Uninstalling it and installing the direct download from LastPass worked for me.

Like many, after a decade plus as a customer, I am frustrated and disgusted that Lastpass is/has retired their Mac app. Worse I received the notification only today 3/20/25 when I logged into my Mac app. No email, no warning, just told no longer supported. I don't want my password vault linked to a web browser adding infinitely more security risks and I don't use Safari nor do I want to!
So, are any of you migrating to a new password vault, if so which one and why? I think this is the last straw that broke the camels back for me.

Hi, I'm really struggling with this, I've just got a new macbook and unable to download the lastpass extension, it just sends me to the desktop and downloads the desktop app. I'm completely lost, the documentation says to download the safari extension, but I simply can't seem to get to it. Any help would be much appreciated as LastPass support guy couldn't seem to help either
