How do you differ from other tech layoff trackers?
How does WARN work in different states?
What is WARN?
Anyone have a take on this site? Is it trustworthy? Can i take with a grain of salt regarding what people say about the company/layoffs?
Hi all, apologies if this breaks a rule of some kind, but chancing my arm.
Been working for a company the past two years or so that’s apparently pretty notorious for being in bad financial standing (“Chapter 11”, numerous “financial restructurings”, etc). In my time there, there’s been one significant wave of layoffs (~60 jobs, which I avoided by a hair).
It’s my first tech role after graduating as a mature student so I’m just milking it for all the experience I can get, but I won’t deny that it’s all been a bit wishy washy at times - very little direction with our projects, changes in management leading to drastic changes in approach to things, etc.
A friend/coworker whose situation differs to mine (6+ years) has become completely disillusioned with the place, and is always trying to “get to the bottom” of things. Every day he tends to check out TheLayoff.com and other such sites where there’s often rumblings and rumours about our workplace. Tends to turn into a bit of a conspiracy-theory vibe. In actuality he’s probably burnt out and needs a bit of a change but can’t afford to take a big risk right now.
I’m just wondering if anyone can attest to these kind of sites, are they mainly disgruntled workers bitching about their workplaces, or do they tend to carry a bit of weight? Of course this can vary, be subjective, etc, I’m really just curious. As messy as it is I’m quite lucky to’ve landed the role I have and will continue to use it to pad my CV for the next while before looking to climb a bit.
