October 12, 2020 - Should work based on what I read on the P1 and the TCL 43" 4K TV. Make sure you are actually connected to the correct HDMI port on the TV. Does it work if you try to configure it to "External display only" (laptop screen is off)?

For anyone who has had experience with the P1 Gen 2, do you guys know how to connect the laptop to an external monitor via USB-C to HDMI? I'm able to connect the laptop to an external monitor if I connect it directly via HDMI but not using the USB-C adapter. The reason I ask is because I want to connect the laptop to multiple monitors and also because 1 of my monitors works faster when connected via USB-C to HDMI, as I have experienced on another older laptop. The interesting things are that: 1. In display settings, the laptop detects the connection to the external monitor that is connected via USB-C to HDMI even though there is a black screen on that external monitor. 2. When restarting the laptop with the USB-C to HDMI connected, sometimes, the display shows up on the external monitor or switches back to the laptop screen but never is there a display showing up on both at the same time. If anyone knows about this, I'd greatly appreciate the help. Thank you so much!

January 6, 2020 - For me the HDMI does not work after the computer goes to sleep. It looks like this is pretty common and lenovo is not addressing it. My P1 only has integrated intel graphics.

April 5, 2024 - There are two difficulties with configuring graphics on ThinkPad P1: there is no "integrated graphics only" option in the BIOS, and the external display ports (HDMI, etc.) are wired into the NVIDIA chip. Depending on your needs, you might choose from the following options: As the P1 is an hybrid device with both an integrated and discrete video card, the NVIDIA drivers have to be setup to use Optimus in order to properly work with external outputs and the integrated laptop screen. Setup NVIDIA Optimus as instructed in NVIDIA Optimus#Use NVIDIA graphics only. Note that this method will keep your NVIDIA graphics card always on, which might dramatically shorten your battery life.

Hi,
I just got the ThinkPad P1 Generation 4i a few months back and I got the Lenovo Thunderbolt 4 docking station to match. I was having issues with getting two external 27” 4k screens to show - there was flickering and intermittent signal losses regardless of the new 8k cables used to connect to the dock.
Anyhow, the dock is not working now, but I have cables such as the HDMI to USB-C and DisplayPort to USB-C, but I’m still not getting the 4k monitors to show using these when connected to either Thunderbolt 4 port on the laptop. I’m using the built-in HDMI port on the laptop to push one 4k screen presently.
Any suggestions? Thanks much.
