People really need to get rid of this idea that an 80 or 8/10 is somehow considered a bad or mediocre game. The numeric review system is so misused and fundamentally broken that it's almost meaningless. A 90 is considered a "must play" aka one of the best games of all time on metacritic. For reference, even most of the fromsoft souls games (other than Elden Ring) either barely scratch 90, or are just under it.

What do you mean... 8/10 is a very good score. Metacritic isn't like IGN, where a 7/10 is given to the most average game ever. For a bit of a reference this is how I score things, and I believe it's a fair and balanced system, where an average game would typically fall between 5-6/10: 5 > = Meh, not even worth scoring 5 = Just okay, barely got through it 6 = Pretty decent 7 = Quite good 8 = Truly great 9 = Outstanding 10 = Masterpiece

VG247 really didn't like it seems like.
But they also claimed AC6 "forces you to equip a heavy or melee weapon to get through Shields" so yeah I don't think they have an opinion worth listening to.

Hard to feel like it'd be anything under the high 80s on metacritic if it wasn't for the difficulty. If you remove difficulty and the learning curve from the equation I feel like the quality of the game is up there with some of the best from the past few years.
This is also coming from someone who wasn't really hyped for it, the game totally blew my expectations out of the water. I think it stands up to some of froms best work.

I love it and think it was pretty fairly reviewed. Maybe could be a little higher once it grows on you. The fact that nearly every big souls YouTuber loves it unequivocally and thinks it’s on par with actual FromSoft games tells me a lot more than regular reviews tbh, it’s clearly something special.
