So, I guess you can do as drawn. You will need to lift the entire frame, mattress, sheets and pillows up to get inside. This will put a LOT of stress on the hinges. The pillows will probably tumble off, and the sheets will slide. I think this is why a more common plan is to make cutouts in the blue box, and install drawers. If you are really attached to this idea, consider putting the hinges on the long side, so the weight of the mattress has a shorter lever on it and doesn't have to be lifted as far. A twin is 75" (6'3") and some (Queen, King, Twin XL) are 80" long - which means that ceiling clearance is an issue if there is a light over your bed the way you have it. More on reddit.com

I have an IKEA one. Nice to put stuff inside if you have not much space, but it gets damn loud and squeaky as time passes. I also hate bumping my feet against the frame. So no, it has not held up for me, but it may be due to the bed being a low cost ikea one. More on reddit.com

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a good lift up bed, preferably made of wood, but I'm open to other options as long as it's in light colors. When I search for lift up beds, all I see are those from Wayfair... Drawers are not enough for me, so I need a lift up bed for around 1000-1200 dollars at most. Have you got any suggestions? (Also, I'm in Toronto.)

I was looking at these and they were a bit out of my price range. You can buy just the lift and attach it to a ‘normal’ bed. I think this is the best option, so you can find a frame you really like. The lift kits are on Amazon. As for companies I looked at Wazo, EK3, article, sleep master, Structube. Most of the bigger brand have at least a couple.
