Normal third party adapters that you can easily find on Amazon won't work, and they explicitly say so. Depending on which headphones, you can use the Apple Lightning to USB adapter , which AFAIK is the only one that supports USB data over Lightning. You will need to also get a male A to female C adapter (which are out of spec themselves but should work), and most importantly your headphones need to be USB Audio Class compatible (usually they're marketed as having a DAC or being "digital", cause there are fully analog USB-C headphones that only work with some USB-C devices.

They don't. Apple's implementation ( https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MUQX3AM/A/usb-c-to-lightning-adapter ) is $30 because Apple built in all kinds of Apple-knowledge-only active circuitry to translate from Lightning's custom USB PD implementation back to USB-C with USB PD. I've tested their version. It's not perfect (it's really only meant to do the translation for the benefit of Apple products), but it does offer USB PD when appropriate. These cheapo adapters are like $2.33 a pop. There's no way there's any kind of active electronics in there required to correctly translate the custom Apple PD flavor to USB PD. does it keep quick charging when charging type C Android phones? Most likely outcome: slow charging at best. Is it safe? I would say no. Don't trust these adapters if your purpose is to just reuse some old C-to-Lightning cables you have left over from your iPhone. Just buy a cheap C-to-C cable and you'll get fast charging without any need for active translation from your USB-C and USBPD charger.

All of my devices use USB-C except my AirPods and most of the people I know have iPhones. Are there any good USB-C to Lightning adapters I can get so I can still use my chargers? I've heard that adapters like that can be damaging for devices but I don't know if there's much truth to that.

They're not approved by Apple. C-to-Lightning cables are MFi approved. I would seriously not purchase anything until Apple OKs it. It's their proprietary connector. Shady folks who try to reverse engineer it could do it badly, and you'd have to explain how you killed your airpod case to the Genius Bar.

There are USB-C PD to lighting cables that comes as complete set. I would use those compared to standard USB-A to lightining. However Apple did get slapped with you must upgrade everything to support USB-C. Iphone 15 is supposed to support USB-C then. With those changes they should be changing their other devices to support USB-C also.
