Paper trading is a good place to start. Zero capital commitment while you figure out if you have a trade with positive expectancy. Starting to trade with a random trade is a great way to lose your scant capital. The market will always be there when you are finally ready to start with real money. Unfortunately, not many futures can be traded at Schwab/TOS with $300 or less. A big part of that is that Schwab/TOS does not offer the reduced intraday margin requirements that some specialty brokers offer (e.g. Tradovate). One can find current margin requirements (and tick values) for futures in TOS desktop by clicking on the dropdown arrow on a symbol entry window and navigating to the Futures subsection. For context, here are the initial margin (full margin) requirements for a few commonly traded micros: /MES ($2.07K), /MNQ ($3.06K), /MCL ($1.01K). More on reddit.com
