What we did for closed storage that’s still kind of fun is buy a bunch of Billy bookcases and the solid doors that go with them. In the flat panel area of the door, I pasted vintage wallpaper from a single roll I loved but didn’t have enough to do a whole wall with. You could even use peel and stick wallpaper or contact paper. The possibilities are endless. It’s a great way to experiment with fun colors or patterns without committing to a whole wall of it. The one thing though is that the Billy might not be deep enough for board games. We have problems storing our jigsaw puzzles in them. But there are other closed bookshelves that are bigger and still have flat panels. Answer from GreenNerdieBirdie on reddit.com

help - living room storage??
The best thing would be a larger L shaped sofa with storage underneath it, built in. Replace the existing sofa which doesn’t fit that well with your MCM aesthetic anyway. Adding a loveseat and a bunch of other storage furniture is a lotta stuff for the space. Cool chairs! More on reddit.com

Recommend storage for the living room?
I disagree on the quality of besta! I’ve had pieces that lasted 15+ years? You can add glue to joints and add additional framing support if you’re really concerned about it, but I’ve found it generally sturdy once shelves are in. More on reddit.com

My partner and I are in the process of buying furniture for our first place together. I have a lot of art supplies, nail supplies, makeup and hair items, etc. that I'm trying to figure out how to store. They have board games, video games, lots of electrical equipment, and other miscellaneous items that they need to store. I want to upgrade from our rubber maid storage bins and drawers and buy actual furniture pieces or find creative and pretty ways to store these items.

So far, I have 1 tall locker cabinet, and I'd love to get another matching one, but it's been out of stock. Aside from that, I'm really blanking on cute storage ideas, especially for my craft supplies. I'd love to hear everyone's ideas! My style is very pastel/pink, mid century, with lots of plants, and I want a fun overall vibe for our place

r/DesignMyRoom on Reddit: help - living room storage??
June 25, 2024 -

my bf and i moved into a new apartment a couple months ago and we’re still struggling to finish our living room.

the main issue is storage, we have LOTS of books, board game, and lego sets. board games and some books can be stored away, but we want to display some lego sets and some books.

we want to replace the bookshelf in the corner with a walnut colored one. we’re going for an MCMish vibe, although we know some of the darker pieces detract from that. we’re struggling to find another storage piece in addition to a bookshelf that won’t make it feel cluttered over there.

our dogs crate acts as a side table next to the sofa. we want to add a fabric seating item in front of the window, an oversized chair or loveseat. we’re struggling because we’re running out of room but still need storage!

we have other pieces to figure out too, replacing the lamps, putting a few floating shelves above the dining area, a curtain to replace the blinds on the door, and maybe finding somewhere on the wall to hang up a few frames.

p.s. dog tax is the last pic :)

tldr: what kind of furniture can we use as storage near the window, taking into account that we’ll be putting a loveseat or oversized chair there too?
