Is it wise to drive up to this point on the Maple Springs Truck Trail with my 2004 Camry? I am a hiker wanting to hike to Santiago Peak from this point. How is the road right now?
I wouldn’t if I were you. I offroad there semi- frequently, you’ll either end up stuck or with a flat tire More on reddit.com

Crashed cars on the maple springs off road trail up to santiago peak. Anyone know the story?

Dead man’s curve. Someone pulled out an F150 a week or 2 ago from down there, cleared out a bunch of vegetation to do so, so previous wreckage is much more visible.

Just to the right and behind the photog is a hairpin right hand turn with a relatively steep pitch up. Also a few BIG ruts that push the driver to the outside of the turn. It’s drivers coming down the hill not making the turn.

Maple Springs Road - Orange County Outdoors
To get to this dirt road, you will need to drive through beautiful Silverado Canyon 6 miles until you reach the gate which stays open most of the year unless weather restrictions apply. Approximately the first mile of Maple Springs Road is paved, then as the road turns to dirt and rock, the scenery gets better and better as you pass huge pine trees and after you get to a junction known as Four Corners, you begin to have stunning views.
