Was cleaning the haze immediately after with warm water and a sponge. I go to look at it this morning and I have a number of tiles with yellow "rectangles". Clearly this is either from the grouting or the act of cleaning it. I've read that this might be caused by minerals in the water?

December 10, 2016 - I started to scrub. First I tried a mild solution of dishwashing soap and water. Then marble cleaner/polish. The yellow stain didn’t fade a bit.

This yellow discoloration can be removed using a commercial poultice or Hydrogen Peroxide. Still, the stains will continue to appear as the process is repeated, so once the material is installed, there isn't a permanent solution.

August 19, 2019 - If you’ve had a pipe burst or excessive water has been used on the marble floor, have your water tested for iron, especially if you’ll be cleaning with it. It’s also a good idea to test the marble for moisture if it has been soaked with water. If oxidation is indeed your issue, preparing and applying a poultice solution may rid the yellowing from the marble in some cases.

May 10, 2025 - Coating or wax up build- Urethane, acrylic and wax marble coatings are not always specifically designed for the material. Over a period of time, when the coating becomes tender and dirt gets embedded in it, the stone turns yellow.

We have a full marble (slab) backsplash and thus far (it's been 19 months) not a single problem -- no staining / etching (as far as I can tell). My partner is a high-heat cooker (stir-fry) and total slob -- splatters everywhere, and nothing, even including tomato sauce bubbling / splattering -- no stains.
