My husband and I just use the computer provided antivirus and firewall. We have never had an issue.

However, Microsoft offers its own built-in Antivirus solution called Windows Defender (also known as Microsoft Defender Antivirus), which is included in Windows 10 and Windows 11. No extra cost. Windows Defender provides real-time protection against malware, viruses, and other threats.
McAfee, on the other hand, is a third-party antivirus provider, and while they may offer trial or discounted services through various promotions or partnerships, they do not offer the full version for free through Microsoft. I ran an Avira Full scan which took about an hour (give or take) and 2 quick scans (one a few days ago and another today.) and It has said I don't have a virus. I also haven't noticed any complications with my computer other than when my DAW's CPU usage was higher than normal today, but I was using a lot of VSTs, so I'm not too concerned. I was wondering If I should be though as I'm not too experienced with viruses.

McAfee is shit, there is a reason why they package it with laptops for free, no one would use it otherwise. Remove McAfee, if you have common sense not to run fishy executable downloaded from fishy sites, that + windows defender should be good enough, if you are worried, download some other free antivirus.

I don't like McAfee. All you need is just Windows Defender, and then maybe something like Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes is free, and has a paid version which is super cheap per year. As well as a web browser extension so it catches things that you download which may be flagged as dangerous. It'll also warn you if you go to a website that may contain phishing. Programs like McAfee and Norton Antivirus are useless.
