What bugs me is i get contacted by meta recruiters while they're also laying off. Why not just retain your talent and grow them? This is so f'd up. not humble brag or anything, just saying recruiters trying to hire while they're also laying off. It's like eating while you're shitting Answer from cozidgaf on reddit.com

Meta lays off 600 from 'bloated' AI unit as Wang cements leadership
October 22, 2025 - Workers across Meta's AI infrastructure units, Fundamental Artificial Intelligence Research unit (FAIR) and other product-related positions will be impacted. However, the cuts did not impact employees within TBD Labs, which includes many of the top-tier AI hires brought into the social media company this summer, people familiar with the matter told CNBC. Those employees, overseen by Wang, were spared by the layoffs, underscoring Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's bet on his expensive hires versus the legacy employees, the people said.

r/Layoffs on Reddit: Meta Layoffs - How’s everyone feeling?
February 10, 2025 -

Nothing to say. Tired of these companies laying people off left, right, and centre. I know so many great people working at all such companies and this kind of ‘low performance’ layoffs are so disheartening and demotivating for people. I’ve heard people say that it leaves a black mark on people and their careers will be ruined at least temporarily. I don’t think that’s gonna happen honestly. People have short memories and no one is sitting and keeping track of who got laid off/ when etc.

However, how’s everyone feeling? It’s a sad bad day.

Meta layoffs are the latest sign that constant job cuts are the new Big Tech normal
Was laid off earlier this year. My org was incredibly top heavy. More seniors than anything else. We had more directors and vps per employee than ive ever seen. The bloated top were making way more and doing way less. too much direction, not enough engineering. Guess who got let go? More ICs than leaders. "Why aren't our dwindling resources doing anything" tech keeps asking. More on reddit.com

Meta layed off more 2000 people across Whatsapp Instagram and Reality Labs
They keep needing to fire employees who have highly appreciated unvested stock grants. That's why they're simultaneously hiring and firing - new employees won't have massively appreciated unvested stock grants. This is the inherent issue with giving out a big chunk of compensation as stock. More on reddit.com

More Meta Layoffs

The sense of job security that was once associated with corporate roles seems to have evaporated into thin air.

Feeling quite torn and disheartened at the moment. The allure of a traditional white-collar corporate job once held such promise, but now, the reality feels far from secure or comfortable. It's disconcerting how the landscape of employment has shifted in this modern age.

The constant restructuring, layoffs, and uncertainty about the future have left me feeling incredibly uneasy. It's not just about the paycheck anymore; it's about stability, peace of mind, and a sense of belonging.

Am I crazy? It's just so weird to me that everything I was told my whole life (as a millennial born in the late '90s in USA) no longer exists at all. What are we supposed to think or do? I am truly speechless; it's so gross.
