Get good quality duct tape and really tape up the bottom right making sure you have all of the holes well covered. Get a bag of mortar, mix it slightly stiff ( so it can hold itself up), then with a trowel line the entire inside of the pit about 1”. Make sure this is where you want it, it will be heavy when your done. Let the mortar set up, I’d say a day or two, then peel off the tape. Then Light it up! More on reddit.com

I'd like to avoid shelling out for a new fire pit when I'm moving at the end of the summer. We just need it to work (read: not drop embers and wood through the holes) well enough to stop living in fear of burning the yard and house down.
Can I patch these holes somehow?
Additionally, there's an idea with flipping the cover to rest inside the bowl and place some rocks on the metal mesh near the holes... but seems like a lot of weight.
