Questions about Microsoft 365 Business Basic before I pull trigger to migrate from Google Apps
Late reply, but in case you are still mulling over it: Some points: so for example [email protected] is main account, but I would receive email sent to [email protected] also bonus if we can send as those alternate names/domains and have them show up as sender, rather than default name/domain Both are possible, got mine setup that way. Beware that the outgoing/send-as is a rather new feature. the desktop (2021), Android (I assume also Iphone), and web version have full support. Third party clients and older clients (Apple Mail, Samsung Mail, Gmail, even Windows 10 Mail) has no or partial support for this. Does this make sense? Yes, it makes sense, even required to go to MS365 Business rather than Family, your domain and alias counts alone will only work with Business version. Family version can be accessed via fat Outlook and other Outlook apps, but anyway that doesn't matter with your aliases requirement. Note that Business Basic does not include Office Desktop App, you need to upgrade to Business Standard ($10/user/mo). Only outlier would be my mom, who has a chromebook and we can set her up with a personal gmail account and she can access her mail on outlook.com instead of gmail.com . Outlook.com is a PWA, it means you can pin it as an "app" in Chromebook, no need to type url everytime and it got its own window. Alternatively your mum can keep using gmail, and you use POP import to get e-mail from her Outlook mailbox, and Outlook SMTP to do send-as. On importing all from Google Apps vs starting from scratch: I did copy-migrate my data from Google Workspace to MS 365 Business Basic. No need to start from scratch, just use the automated migration in MS Exchange Admin, the IMAP import is kinda obsolete, use the new automated one. Important: tidy up your gmail labels or exclude some labels before importing. The Gmail labels will be treated as folders, and therefore e-mail with multiple labels will be duplicated (found in multiple folder). "Inbox" is a label, by the way. So if you think you have one label, usually you have at least two. ;) Currently myself and wife are the heaviest users of email/calendaring/contacts in Google. Son and Daughter would be net new, and my mom is very light email usage, no calendar or contacts that I know of. This is an excellent use case where MS365 is more cost effective than Google: The equivalent plan to Google Workspace Business Starter is MS365 Business Basic, ($6/user/mo), but not all members need to have that license. If you or your kids don't need 1TB OneDrive and Web Office Apps, go with Exchange Online 1 plan ($4/user/mo). For your mum she should fit in Exchange Online Kiosk ($2/user/mo) with 2GB Inbox + 2GB Archive. All of them can be on the same tenant (sharing domains, alias, global address book, etc.) and license can be up/downgraded anytime (you still pay monthly or yearly though) More on reddit.com

Office 365 Business Basic price increase? supplier says no?

Microsoft is introducing/migrating to a new price structure called New Commerce Experience (NCE). With the legacy model, you were always purchasing an annual subscription, even if you paid monthly, but Microsoft never enforced the annual term. With the NCE price structure they are adding a new monthly SKU that is 20% higher cost than the annual SKU ($ 7.20/user for M365 Business Basic). You are able to still pay monthly with an annual commitment. Also with NCE you are locked in with a minimum annual license count from when you subscribed.

If you subscribe before February 28, your price is locked in for the year, but on March 1st the price will go from $5 to $6 per month for new/renewed subscriptions. You can still renew on the legacy price system through July 1, 2022.
