We are trying to decide which version of 365 to go with, either Premium or Standard. If we are using our own AV solution (BD or CS), what are we losing out on with sticking to Business Standard? (We do want to use Azure AD for users and for an admin account)

Comparing Microsoft 365 Business Standard vs. Premium, the main difference is Standard does not include Azure AD, Intune, Azure MFA, and a few other things. Does this mean that a user licensed with Standard cannot join their PC to Azure AD at all? Can a Standard user not enable MFA on their account? What exactly are the limitations here?

The big one is you are limited to Secure Defaults with no capabilities for granular Conditional Access Policies. Also no Intune, no Azure AD SSPR support. In my opinion Business Premium is worth every penny

You can join... Just no policies. Only username and password and for Intune it would need to be disjjoined and enrolled if you join it. You could do mfa with legacy although not recommended Its worth the money to go bus preiemum. You get full stp, defender, Intune and can auto deploy apps like office.

I’m trying to determine if spending the extra $2622(23 users x $114 a year) is worth upgrading to Business Premium. I’m currently using Trend Micro WFBS($1530/yr) for virus/malware protection which I would cancel, so the annual increase is not quite so bad. I also considered adding the Defender add on($2/$5 per user per month) to Standard but it seems Premium adds so much more. I’ve had success with Trend Micro but it seems a little too simple for the complexity malware has added to my security job. Anybody have experience with this upgrade?

If you run Office in a multi-user environment (RDS server) your users will need to be at the Business Premium tier.
That’s really the only reason we have some BP licenses. Otherwise, we are all Standard with a few E3.
