Dear Dobrosława Duszyńska
Good day!
Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are glad to assist!
Based on your description, I understand you concern with to use your custom domain with Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
You may have a try to do following steps:
- Add your domain to Microsoft 365: Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center, navigate to Settings > Domains, and select Add domain. Follow the steps to verify that you own your domain and set up the necessary DNS records, you can refer to Add a domain to Microsoft 365 - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn.
- Set Up Email Aliases: Once your domain is added, you can create email aliases for your custom domain. Go to Users > Active users. Select the user (yourself) and click on Manage email aliases. Add your custom email address (e.g.,
[email protected]) as an alias. - Set Primary Email Address: After adding the alias, you can set it as your primary email address. In the Manage email aliases section, select your custom email address and set it as the primary email.
- Configure your email account in Outlook: Ensure that your custom domain email is set up as an Exchange account in Outlook. This will allow you to send and receive emails using your custom domain email address
For @onmicrosoft.com, when you sign up for Microsoft 365, Microsoft provides an onmicrosoft.com domain - your fallback domain - in case you don't own a domain, or don't want to connect it to Microsoft 365 (for example, tailspintoys.onmicrosoft.com). Your fallback domain is used by default in:
- Usernames and email addresses
- Microsoft 365 teams & groups email aliases
- Automatic domain dependency moves
You can refer to Add and replace your onmicrosoft.com fallback domain in Microsoft 365 - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn
If you have other questions, please feel free to let me know, I will continue to assist you.
Thanks for your precious time and your understanding would be highly appreciated. Have a nice day!

Use my own domain with Microsoft 365 Family...
I have a 365 family subscription and I own a domain. I want to create an email in outlook using my domain but I can’t find out how to do so. Do I have to have a business account?

The information in that post is wrong.
If you have your own domain and an Microsoft 365 personal or family subscription, you can add the domain in Outlook.com's Settings (gear icon) > View all Outlook settings > Premium
https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/premium/personalemail
But you need to do it ASAP - before the end of Nov.
My instructions above are correct for family and personal accounts.

Hello! My name is Mostafa, and I will try my best to assist you with this so that you find a satisfactory solution.
Yes, you can use your own domain with Microsoft 365 Family. You can add your domain to Microsoft 365. In the wizard, you’ll confirm that you own the domain and then automatically set up your domain’s records, so email comes to Microsoft 365 and other Microsoft 365 services, like Teams, work with your domain.
You can follow these steps to add your domain to Microsoft 365:
- Sign in to the Microsoft admin center at https://admin.microsoft.com.
- Go to the Settings > Domains page.
- On the Domains page, select a domain.
- Under DNS records, select Custom Records; then select Add record.
5 Select the type of DNS record you want to add and type the information for the new record.
- Select Save.
Please review the below article.

If the above steps do not help, reach out to me, and I will be happy to help and try my best to resolve your issue. Thank you.
Best,
Mostafa
Yes, that's one of the reasons I wrote this post. If a lot of people are asking the same question, it would be a great indication to Microsoft of the need to bring this feature back.
