I usually use LibreOffice because it's free and Office licenses are typically very expensive. Also, I refuse to move to a subscription model for office apps.
But I saw this deal today: https://stacksocial.com/sales/microsoft-office-professional-plus-2021-for-windows
$49 for a lifetime license for the Office 2021 suite. What's the catch? It seems too good to be true.
I am NOT associated with Stacksocial or Microsoft. This is not an ad. I just want to know if this deal is legit.
Two lifetime licenses of Office 2021 ($$$)
Is the office 2021 provide a lifetime validity, which it doesn't expire ?
I have a lifetime license to Office 2021 (Mac) and now I'm being asked to subscribe to Microsoft 365

Hi Bee, Microsoft Pro purchased online do not have a legitimate Microsoft licence, they are volume based and not supposed to be sold on a retail basis. I tell you this because these versions do not operate in the same way as genuine retail licenced versions.
The other problem is that you can see both versions at: https://account.microsoft.com/services which means only one Microsoft Account was used to redeem/install them. Does that mean your wife is using your Microsoft Account on her computer?
Manage multiple one-time-purchase Office installs that use the same Microsoft account - Microsoft Support
When more than one 'retail version' of Office is installed (same version of Office) then you can switch licences. Open an App, e.g. Word>File>Account>You should see:
- Open an Office app such as Word and sign in with the Microsoft account associated with this version of Office.
- Similar to the window screenshot below, a numbered list of all your licenses will appear in the Select Office for this device window. One of your licenses will be pre-selected. Select that one or choose a different license for this device, and then select Next.
Please note the licence key for Office from 2019 onwards does not show at Services and Subscriptions
However, when at the above article you can click on>Office 2016>Scroll down to>"Step 2: View the product key on each PC where Office is installed" You will see that you can use Command Prompt to find the last 5 characters of the licence Key on that computer. It is not much help other than to tell you whether each of the computers are running different Offices.
Hello BeeZeeCo,
Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.
I completely understand the need to simplify and organize your licenses especially when dealing with situations like this. Note that Microsoft doesn’t provide a direct way to rename or label licenses in your account under "Subscriptions." However, I can offer a workaround to help differentiate and organize them:
Track License Details In your Microsoft account, under "Services & Subscriptions," note down the activation key or date of purchase for each license. Assign these details to each device so you can quickly identify which one belongs to whom in the future.
Use the Device Name when activating Office on a device, it might be helpful to rename the PC. For example, name your wife's PC something like "Wife PC" and yours "Your Name PC." This way, in the Microsoft account under devices, it’ll be easier to associate the license with the correct machine.
Maintain a simple list or file stored in a secure location stating which license is activated on which machine. Label it as "License for Wife's PC: Key or Purchase Date" and "License for My PC: Key or Purchase Date." Save this in a place like a physical notebook or a protected cloud storage.
Lastly I will suggest that you Leverage a Backup Solution as you have wisely done with a better backup solution, always back up critical files, license information, and settings. This step ensures you are prepared for any hardware failures in the future.
I hope these steps helps resolve your issue.
Best wishes,

Hello Mohanabharathi Sadhasivam,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. While our primary focus is on Microsoft 365 Business, I would like to provide some guidance regarding your query.
Yes, Office 2021 is a one-time purchase that provides a lifetime license. This means it does not expire, and you can use it indefinitely on the device where it is installed. However, it’s important to note that one-time purchases don’t have an upgrade option, which means if you plan to upgrade to the next major release, you'll have to buy it at full price. All Microsoft software has an ‘end of support’ date. After that date, there are no more software or security bug fixes provided by Microsoft. For Office 2021, the end of support is 13 October 2026.

Oh, thanks a bunch, so the end of support is something which, when I face and issue, I won't able to get it sorted out right ?
Hi, this is the first time ive written anything on these forums. I hope MS are listening. The issue for me is the latest MS update.
I had a lifetime agreement on MS 2019 version, and it has worked fine - all up until the latest update. I have now uninstalled it, reinstalled it and it was fine. then I did the update again and there you have it - the latest update is corrupting lifetime agreements!! I have since uninstall and reinstalled again - but turned off my auto updates.
