What's the advantage of the Microsoft Store compared to normal Programs?
I'd try to keep all my apps updated through the Store or the package manager. It's convenient, safe, easy to maintain and update. There will surely be apps that will require additional installers, but I like the idea of using one source for everything. I've been on Fedora for a few months and the idea of a one reliable, safe source for most of my apps is pretty great. The updates happen in one place and you have control over what everything is trying to do. You don't have to deal with manually updating every package and app. More on reddit.com

With the upcoming Windows 11 Microsoft is going to overhaul the Microsoft Store massively.
While I appreciate finally bringing mobile apps to Windows I don't see the advantage for other use cases.
Take Spotify, Discord or Zoom for example. All of these programs have a dedicated installer provided by the developers. What's the point of installing them through the Microsoft Store instead of downloading them manually?
Providing both the app and the manual program installer is a huge tasks for developers. They have to maintain both versions. I can imaging one of them is always going to have an earlier version upgrade/update compared to the other.
Another advantage I can think of manual installing is modding the clients. You can dive into the folder structure and manually edit or mod things (e.g. Minecraft). How would you do this with the Microsoft Store apps?
What's your opinion on this? Do you/will you use the Microsoft Store apps or will you keep using the manual installers?

From a developers perspective, it's the automatic update handling which is really convenient. Another thing is the acceptance by the "smart screen", though of course the Microsoft store just solves a problem which was first generated by Microsoft. The smart screen will point out every unknown application as dangerous, unless you buy a very expensive developer certificate, or you distribute the application by the store.

Most people tend to use .exe file and, good for them but I personally, sometimes prefer to download stuff from the Microsoft store if it’s not a game or if it is some app that I want to mod. otherwise I always use .exe
