r/techsupport on Reddit: Is there a way to update or download the newest version of microsoft store on w10?
November 14, 2023 -

Im getting this issue lately whenever i format a new laptop, microsoft store wont load and i get an error, cant search anything, or load the installed apps... even after full windows update still nothing...

I noticed few times when microsoft store get updated somehow, it runs fine, even though the set region is us... before that i never had such problem, microsoft store open normally, loads the apps and check for updates then auto update... now it does not load anything, only getting an error with no apps to show

Im not asking for a fix, im only asking if there is a way to manually update or install the newest version of microsoft store? Like normal software gets installed with an installation exe or something like that

Hi Mount Derick,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A!

I understand how frustrating it can be when the Microsoft Store or Windows Update fails to work properly. Here are some methods to fix update issues that you can try:

1 - Update via Microsoft Store itself:

  • Open Microsoft Store > Click your profile picture
  • Select Downloads and updates > Click Get updates
  • Or click the Library icon > Get updates.
  • If the Store has an update, it will install automatically.

2 - Force update

  • Open Windows PowerShell as Administrator
  • Run this command: Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
  • Restart your computer and try opening the Store again.

3 - Reset Microsoft Store cache

  • Press Win + R > type wsreset.exe > Enter
  • Wait for the prompt to run automatically
  • The Store will reopen, try updating again

4 - Run the built-in troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters
  • Select Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter.

5 - Reset Windows Update components

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  • Run the following prompts one by one
    • net stop wuauserv
    • net stop bits
    • ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    • ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
    • net start wuauserv
    • net start bits
  • Then try updating again

r/WindowsHelp on Reddit: Microsoft Store unable to download or update apps on Windows 11.
December 3, 2023 -

Hey!

Since I performed a clean install of Windows 11 on my new drive, the Microsoft Store is not able to update apps anymore. When selecting a new app to download or when updating an existing app, the library shows "Pending" or "Downloading" on the app. I waited for an hour and none have finished yet.

In the screenshot below, you can see the behaviour: https://imgur.com/a/hrD1mIX

Things I have tried:- Performed a clean install of Windows 11 (twice)
- Updated Windows to latest version|
- Under the Microsoft Store app options selected repair and reset.|
- Signed out and back in again in the Microsoft store
- Ran wsreset.exe
- Ran Windows store apps troubleshooter (says it couldn't identify any problems)
- Used System File Checker, as explained here (which reported no issues)
- Re-registered the store app using: Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

None of these seem to have solved the issue. Does anyone know anything else I can try? Thanks!

-- Update --

This issue seemed to be on Microsoft's end, and was automatically resolved for me today (dec, 3rd).

Holy s**t. A lot of people having the EXACT issue as me. Literally just built a new PC for my kid's friend. went to update the apps so he could play his game pass games and everything installed but Gambar, Windows Web Experience Pack and the Xbox app. Been looking for a fix for HOURS. Also attempted to update apps on my own PC and the same thing happened but it was only Windows Web Experience Pack that wouldn't update. Hopefully there's a fix soon.

Temporary Solution for Users Looking to Solely use the Xbox App: - Open the "Microsoft Store App" - Search for "Xbox Insider Hub" and click "Get" - Let the Microsoft Store download and Install it (It will work unlike the other apps) - This download will take time so be patient and don't touch the other frozen updates - Open Xbox Insider Hub when it's finished - Go to Previews and scroll down to PC Gaming - Click on it and Join the Preview Program - Let it install, this process also takes a long time. - Once "Pending" turns into "Manage" - Restart your PC - Once back to Windows, open the Microsoft Store, Click Library (Bottom) - Click the three dots on each frozen app update and click "Cancel Download" - After all have been closed, click on the "Get Updates" Button - Install the Xbox App - This one took about 15 minutes but it DID WORK this time. So be super patient. - Open Xbox App after it downloads and enjoy the beta version for now Hopefully Microsoft fixes this issue soon, it drove me insane. Cheers everyone!
