Great questions! I started out with the dry grain container for my Vitamix. It works okay for small batches, but leaves a coarse flour. For soft grains, like oats it works well, but for wheat you will have to sift out the bran and you can only blend a few cups at a time. It's also blending not really milling. I next considered the attachments for my KitchenAid. At the time, the Mockmill attachment was not available. The KitchenAid attachment didn't get great reviews. I ended up getting a KoMo stand alone mill and love it! I use it all the time and don't buy flour anymore. The Mockmills were not out yet, or I would have considered that too. A friend did buy the Mockmill attachment. It worked well enough, he could get a fine grind but it overheated his KitchenAid and was loud and slow. He ended up selling it and getting a used standalone KoMo on eBay and is happy with that. It works great and he got a deal from someone moving back to Germany. I would recommend getting a stand alone grain mill. Either the Mockmill or the KoMo. Wolfgang Mock is the Mo in KoMo. He split off and started his own company. But, take a look at the KoMos too. They have been around a while and have a 12 year warranty. If I were buying now, I'd be torn between a KoMo and the Mockmill Professional. I like the wood casing and being able to adjust the grind by turning the hopper versus using a lever. Good luck! Let us know what you decide! Answer from livtiger on reddit.com

Mockmill 100 or 200
I asked a local grain company for their recommendation on the 100 vs 200. Their recommendation for the home hobbyist baker is to get the 100. The 200 is nice, but is a bit overkill for most people. More on reddit.com

Any good grain mill attachment for the kitchenaid?
What are you planning on milling? I have the KA one. I use it to mill brown rice and white rice. White rice is pretty fine, almost equivalent to finely ground factory flower. The brown rice is a little more course, works for standard baking fine, but would not be good for pastries. I make my own wheat free flour blend. Maize cannot be ground into flour with it, but you can do maize meal. I used to use a Vitamix, but now I ise the KA mill exclusively for milling rice for the blend. More on reddit.com

r/HomeMilledFlour on Reddit: Grinding my own flour...Vitamix vs Kitchenaid vs Mockmill...which to get?
December 24, 2022 -

Hello! I am considering milling my own flour, and am feeling overwhelmed by what to do next. I mostly bake breads and muffins, brownies, and scones, although I would like to occasionally make cookies/pies/cakes, and maybe make my own pasta one day. I own a vitamix and a kitchenaid stand mixer (mini) already.

Could I just dip my toe in grinding wheat berries in my vitamix? Or do I need to use a mill to get flour that works?

If so, I know there's a vitamix dry grain container, the kitchen aid mill attachment, the mockmill attachment for a kitchenaid, a standalone mockmill. Will the cheaper options work well enough? Or do I need to go all out? Help stop my brain from melting down.

I have the mockmill kitchen aid attachment. It’s noisy to run but pumps out flour at an Ok rate. I only do abut 250g at a time and it takes less than a minute for a corse grind and a little longer for a finer grind. If you are dipping your toe in it’s a good place to start

December 7, 2020 - I read reviews on other grain mill attachments for our mixer but never felt like it fit what we needed so I never settled on purchasing one. What really sets the Mockmill mixer apart is that it uses STONES to grind the grains. (which also means you can’t get it wet!)

July 24, 2017 - I was quite pleased with the performance of the Mockmill. I tested out both soft white and hard red wheat berries, and both ground up perfectly. You can also grind other non-oily, dry grains. It doesn’t grind to a super-fine stage, but that’s fine unless you are making delicate pastries and such. ... 1. It takes a bit of getting used to in order to use., be sure to tighten the attachment screw well.
