Hi guys!
My shower valve stopped working this morning, water wasn’t shutting off from the valve handle. My dad and I turned off the water line and replaced the cartridge. Moen 158084 was the original, and we replaced it with the Moen 1222 (Which is supposedly the correct modern replacement).
After putting the new valve in, we turned the water line back on, twisted the metal nob a bit and no water was coming out. After messing with it awhile we decided to take the replacement cartridge out and try again. While we were pulling, water started gushing out the pipe (water line was still on.)
Any idea what we might be doing wrong with the new cartridge? Did we maybe misalign something with the nob?
Thank you!

Hey folks, my old shower cartridge kicked the bucket yesterday. It got hard to turn and then it wouldn't turn off. I took it out and it's got the numbers 158085 and 158084 on it. I went to Home Depot and they didn't have that but they said the 1222 would work. Installed one last night and it leaked out the shower. Returned it and tried another one in case that first one was defective but it also leaks. I'm calling around and looking online but I can't find any 158085/84 cartridges anywhere.
Thanks in advance for any help!
