Has anyone had this installed in their homes? We are getting pricing later today for this line and curious as to peoples thoughts on it. The price range given to us was between $4.50/sf to $5.99/sf. This price includes the pad with installation and removal/disposal of the old carpeting.

I have been looking for reviews on this line but it seems to be pretty new and I am not able to find much on it.

That line came out around November of last and fully released this past January. It's Mohawks response to the solution dyed PET market and especially a response to Shaw's Pet Perfect display. So much so that some of the colors on the cards are pretty much direct copies of other companies products best selling colors. Which is hilarious, an essential admission that their colors on other lines haven't been as good (the fixed some of the odd hues in their other colors in other lines since they don't use green recycled soda bottles which is helping them get better lighter colors. Really there are two possibly three cards that are worth it on the display Claws and Effect, unless you can find someone with Refined Saga (possibly the best specs lowest cost SD PET out there right now) Purssonality 3 and on I cannot remember. The claws and effect has a higher density than pretty much any carpet in is price group. The whole pet stain or stain doesn't work the way you think it will. The issue with any object that stains will be "wicking" and repetition (animals go on the same spot) so if the carpet delaminates from pet urine then it's happened multiple times and yeah they aren't compelled to do anything) Other than that PET carpets are some of the highest bang for buck you can get, they are unlikely to last 20+ years, but the nylon or wool that will, will also be 2-3x as expensive for the same feel so ehhh the math is kind of in the understand the difference pick what you want. My parent have a 55-60oz stapled continuous dyed PET from 14 years ago, that carpet is rated for 10 years and it looks good it has some traffic marks not real stains, I took a couple spots out with a small had held Bissel cleaner. These new SD PET carpets are much better than the one they have, I know I am giving on reference but it's the fastest easiest example of a product that "shouldn't" by many people's assesment actually be doing it.

Over priced and over promised gimmick to sell carpet. Your pets will ruin it just as fast as regular carpet. The pet barrier on the pad is more important than pet resistant carpet. The thing you don’t want to happen is pet mess to set into the padding. The pet barrier on the padding will solve that problem.

Getting some rooms redone with new carpet, and got a decent quote today. But I don't know much about the carpet. They gave three Mohawk options -- Neutral Base, Neutral Shift, Genuine Theme. As far as I can tell, these are builder/apartment grade carpets. The Neutral Base has 100% triexta, but Neutral Shift and Genuine theme, which actually cost a little more, have a mixture of triexta and PET. That seems like a downgrade?

I'm kinda confused at what I'm looking for here. The carpet quote was $20/yard (just the carpet), about $50/yard installed with the pink Mohawk upgraded pad (the stuff with the vapor barrier). That's great, cheaper than I expected, probably because the carpet is cheap. I could arbitrarily upgrade to a more expensive line for another couple grand, but I'm not sure what kind of upgrades are worth it and what doesn't matter.

FWIW, we probably are only staying in this house maybe 10 more years, could be less. The original builder carpet (no idea what it is, but probably low grade polyester) was basically okay for about 5 years. I'm trying to gauge what the lifespan of this Mohawk stuff is. Given it's on their builder/multifamily site, I'm guessing it's not much better than what was put in this house when it was built.

They've been around a very long time. I think it's a safe choice to use them.

I think these prices are high across the board, and especially for the labor. I don't know what part of the country you're in, but $5 syd just to pull up the carpet and then another $8.50 to install is astronomically high for most anywhere that I'm aware of. The carpet prices seem pretty high too... only the pad is what I would consider close to average, and that's only if they are actually giving you one with a barrier, because the quote doesn't mention it, and if they're just talking about the latex skin on top of the pad, that's no true barrier. But to more directly answer your question, Mohawk in general is a good manufacturer, and they make everything from cheap apartment grade carpet all the way up to very premium quality. These carpets are all much closer to the cheap end of the spectrum. As you already mentions, they are all in the "Builder & Multifamily" line, so they are inherently not designed for longevity. They are all 25oz face weight (which is the minimum to meet FHA standards), with just the percentage of Triexta to PET being the difference in cost. PET is actually reasonbly durable when properly constructed; Triexta is a lower grade of polyester and doesn't hold up as well, but it's less expensive too. My opinion is that any of these options are going to hold up similar to your original carpet, which is to say that it will probably be completely done even before that 10 year mark comes up. Which is not the fault of the carpet, since it isn't intended to last that long. I would suggest that you shop around - I'd bet you can get a much better carpet for the same money

r/HomeImprovement on Reddit: Cost of Carpet?
July 15, 2018 -

I am being quoted by local carpet guy and reasonable labor but his carpet (the Mohawk smart strand Homefront I, II or III) costs $36, $40 and $44 per yard with pad (Mohawk Smart Cushion but not sure will go with pad with moisture barrier.

That carpet cost is really what drove it all. The labor he quoted seems very fair.

But for 3 bedrooms (10x12 ish) it is 48 yards and with labor costing ~3K which seems a bit expensive. Before getting into this, I had thought maybe $2K for 3 bedrooms?

I looked up this carpet online and found it for $30 per yard for the Home front III. That's nearly $15 savings. 33% cheaper.

I guess maybe should go to another carpet person for a quote. But if I did want to go with this guy (came well reviewed and was kind and helpful this far) what is best approach to negotiate here?
