5 great Google Chrome Web Store extensions for your Chromebook
September 14, 2025 - You should always review the privacy practices and permissions for any Chrome Web Store extension before installing it. I’ve tried nearly every major task list management app out there, if not all of them, over the past decade. And time after time, I come back to Todoist, which is cross-platform and has mobile app support as well. I use the free, basic plan, which is more than enough for most people. And the Todoist extension makes task management on a Chromebook super effective.

r/chromeos on Reddit: Any way to get chrome extensions working on an old chromebook? (vers 93)
January 18, 2024 -

I have an old Chromebook my mother gave me, It is Chrome OS version 93.0.4577.107

I'm not in a space where I'm able to buy another laptop, but needed one for several things in my life. So buying a new Chromebook is not an option, at least for a few more months. And tbh I'd rather spend money on windows.

I just want to download UBlock again and change my theme. Both things I cannot do on this version. What's weird is that some of my extensions did get installed when I set up the computer. Extensions that I wouldn't be able to download if they weren't already on my Chrome account. (Grammarly, Dark Reader, Save Image as, and a few others) So that leads me to hope there's a way to at the very least get some extensions running, even though the computer cannot update. I'm probably wrong though.

If the absolute only option is Linux, I know someone who will be able to do that for me. It's just not the best option for me as I have 0 experience with it, and tbh I'm lazy.

Let me know, if not I'll just keep using this one until I can buy a computer with ANY basic features still enabled.

When building solutions for education use cases on Chromebooks, you can create an extension, a web app, or both. If you need to run your program in a cross-site context, then an extension is a good option to consider. Your extension can interact with web apps that you don’t own.
