third song in the musical "Hamilton"
How long did Miranda spend writing “My Shot”?
Has “My Shot” charted independently?
What certifications does the track hold?
Videos
Yesterday I introduced my mother to Hamilton and she watched it for the first time. We're from Germany so she didn't understand everything perfectly. When she asked me what the line "I am not throwing away my shot!" means, I didn't really know how to explain it to her, so if anyone of you has a good explanation please tell me! Thanks in advance :D
How do you explain "I am not throwing away my shot"?
Here's a not-so-known video of Lin-Manuel Miranda & James M. Iglehart performing My Shot in 2012 (during the development of the musical)
"Throwing Away My Shot" double meaning
Kind of. It's called deloping, which means "throwing away" in French. When you delope, you're supposed to shoot at the ground, and not the air like Hamilton did. Some people think Burr misunderstood Hamilton's intentions and shot because he though Hamilton shot at him. Others think Hamilton shot after being wounded by Burr reflexively, and others even think they fired at almost the exact same time. More info than you needed, but this is my favorite subject and I enjoy talking about it.
TL;DR: Yes.
