100 sure, nowhere near 200 years old. File cabinets are a latter half of the Victorian era thing - 1870+. Just from the look of it I’d say late 1890s to 1910. I’ll come back and add if I find more. Earliest it can possibly be is 1880 when Yawman & Erbe was founded. Latest date I can find for the company is the 1970s, but I think their business must have changed significantly after the 1930s. Here’s a 1909 catalog you can look through: https://archive.org/details/yawman-erbe-filing-cabinets-catalog-915-e-1909/page/n22/mode/1up Further I’m a bit suspicious of those side panels. See page 12 in that catalog above which is your file cabinet. They look to either have been added (they look like early plywood to me which I’ve seen mainly on 1940s/50s things) or this was part of a file bank like the catalog. Your dad got a steal at $75. Office furniture like this tends to hold a pretty good value and I’d expect to see it, if the sides are original or hiding the original, for quite a bit in an antique store. Turned out well. However, you have now learned the first lesson: Make the carcass first and fit the drawers to it, not the other way around. Unless you a full blown production shop, mass-producing parts is a recipe for disaster. Make one sub-assembly at a time. Don't measure, make part A bit part B. More on reddit.com

My Dad is in the process of moving and wanted some information (primarily a fair market value estimate) on an antique filing cabinet he’s had for ~5 years. The single maker’s mark indicates that it was made by Yawman & Erbe Mfg. Co. in Rochester, NY. My Dad purchased it for $75 from a contractor he was on a job site with. The guy didn’t give any information about how he came to own it, how long he’s had it, or much of anything else. Based on some preliminary research, I believe it to be 100-120 years old - I have no concrete proof of its age though. I took photos from all sides and of each drawer mostly open - hopefully they are clear enough. The overall dimensions are 27.25“L x 14.375“W x 52.5“H. Each drawer measures 12.25“W x 8.5“H.
We live in the central United States. I much appreciate any help!
