Exchange Online (Plan 1) is supposed to be $4 per month per user. Not sure if that’s able to be subscribed to stand alone though. Seems like that would be the cheapest option though Answer from Icangooglethings93 on reddit.com

I had the same problem so I googled and found this in Microsoft's help pages:

You can add multiple custom domains in all Office 365 subscriptions[...]

This help article looks as if it were possible but they only talk about the business versions and Office 365 Home isnt mentioned with a single word - so I continued my research, even contacted Microsoft - they had no idea, but then I finally found this post:

yesterday I called MS Support and the support engineer was discussing in the background with a colleague. Then he said that it's possible to use own domain with O365 Home... I just had to create a new account with my personal email adres/domain... after that I could order O365 and configure it with my own DNS domain name. Then after changing MX records with my hosting provider this would work for me.

anyway... I tried this anyway... I created a new account with my personal domain... then I ordered Office365Home hooked up to my paypal account....but in the end... no options for me to configure this. So I called back.... I got the same engineer... but then he said.. sorry, I don't have enough technical expertise, cause I'm a sales guy.... strange, because I tried to get tech help... The guy gave me a phonenumber to local (Belgium) Microsoft Tech support.... so I called the number. Then I got first or second line tech support on the line, so I expained the situation and the proposed option from his colleague. But I got a negative response.

No, sir, O365 Home does not allow you to use your own domain... why should it, there are not so many families using their own DNS domain, sir...

DUHH !!! What ? I don't understand their response... I times like this... people make their own family website... use a personal domain.... so I believe this is really a stupid reaction from a Microsoft Tech guy. Probably he has his own domain at home ;-) The only option is to choose for O365 Small Business and pay a lot more, because you need to pay for every user... every family member... so that would cost me at least 200€-250€ yearly.... please get serious ! so I give up.... Also Google Apps only has a business solution... also around 200€ yearly. Office365 Home... useless -> go for Office365 SMB... 2expensive ! I'll try again when Microsoft grows up and gets serious.

After all I don't think it is possible, I also found some forum posts and comments in blogs and they all say it isn't possible.

As of January 2020, this is now possible with a subscription to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family Edition (formerly Office 365), but according to Microsoft you are required to purchase your domains with (or transfer them to) GoDaddy. I have found sources that claim this is possible with other domain registrars, with some users reporting success, but Microsoft maintain that this is only possible via GoDaddy.

I managed to connect a domain to my Microsoft 365 Family account, but this is not a real solution to use a custom email domain.

This is just a alias to a outlook.com account... i login with the custom email address but at the end the outlook account is the one that is used, and all email goes from the outlook account... :(

Is there any real solution to use a custom domain with Microsoft 365 family account?

How can i send email using the custom domain account... if i choose this option i alwasy get smtp server error. " This message can't be sent right now. Please try again later. The SMTP address has no mailbox associated with it. "

Can someone clarify if indeed your domain has to be registered with Godaddy to host your email on Outlook if have Office 365 Family. Someone posted on Microsoft you did not, you just needed to update the DNS records accordingly. I would try it but I already have my mail hosted on another service that allows custom domains. Don't want to undo it just to find out it does not work and renter all records again. I do not want to use Godaddy for my domain registration so that is not an option as far as I am concerned.

So Microsoft is doing (has done) away with personalized domains. I still have one active. However, GoDaddy is awful. I've had the personal domain working with another registrar. If I transfer out of GoDaddy, is it going to remove it from Microsoft 365, or can I just set up the DNS records with the new registrar? I'm guessing it'll break?

Our org is looking at a re-branding and thus a new custom domain in our Office 365 tenant. Trying to sort out the implications of such a change. We are 100% cloud and Azure AD. If anyone knows of a good guide written up, let me know. As I understand it, we would assign the new email domain alias to existing mailboxes and migrate existing DNS settings to the new domain on our host provider (changing SPF, DKIM, and DMARC as well). How does a new email username login affect current Windows 10 profiles that are Azure AD joined and Intune managed? Will new profiles need to be created? Any other considerations I'm missing?

Will I get a free domain email address with office 365? I already have my domain through namesilo and want to set up a [email protected] email where I can send and receive email from. I see that GSuite gives you that but for a similar price I’d rather get Word, excel, PowerPoint that google docs. Any other advantages/disadvantages between the two would be appreciated as well. This is for a solo law Firm with one user so my system doesn’t need to be too intricate. Thanks!

I am currently a bit skeptical about choosing an email hosting provider. I already purchased a domain and have a Microsoft 365 panel (not personal or family). There is more than enough storage available on the plan as well.

You should know by now why I am posting this in this subreddit. Privacy and security is a concern. On the security scale, M365 is good (more than good), with frequent updates to the panel. Now comes the privacy part. How much am I going to share with the company?

Do you think I should go ahead with the process because I am slowly replacing google with alternatives? If not, please provide some good reasons, and also, what else should I consider?

It is good to have the following features:

-Support for alias creation

-good amount of storage (scaling up to 1TB or higher)

-etc.,

Edit:

Self-hosting is in my plan but at a future time. So this is not an option right now.

I want to use Office 365 Personal/Family without moving my domain to GoDaddy. In fact, GoDaddy does not even support the domain. GoDaddy is not a supported registrar for .NZ TLDs, only for .CO.NZ TLDs, and my domain has a ".NZ" only TLD.

I imagine that must have been asked a million times already. I just contacted MS support and the person on the chat confirmed that it is not supported. But since this is just DNS I was hoping someone would have figured it out already?

I wish a product manager at Microsoft would read this sub-reddit and release this already. It is silly to require a particular registrar for your custom domains.

r/Office365 on Reddit: Use Microsoft365 custom domain mail for a personal account
June 18, 2021 -

I have created a mail address using a custom domain with GoDaddy and now I need a (personal) Microsoft account associated with it. However, since GoDaddy uses Microsoft365, my mail address is considered a 'work address' (which I am the admin of) and I therefore cannot use it to sign up for a personal account.

So far, I have found out that

  • GoDaddy offers all mail options via Microsoft365, and since I have a few addresses there, I cannot move away from it

  • it is/was possible to have a 'work' and a 'personal' account at Microsoft using the same mail address, but this is strongly discouraged

Is there any way for me to use my 'work mail' to create a personal Microsoft account that I am not seeing? Or is there just no way to achieve this and I should look for a different solution?

r/sysadmin on Reddit: Trying to add an email with a custom domain in Microsoft 365 family
November 4, 2021 -

I have a question about adding your own domain and then making a custom email in Microsoft 365 family plan. I know this is normally easy but it seems a bit more complicated in my scenario.

So I currently have 2 accounts in a 365 family. Both emails are already using the custom domain when the 365 account was created, [email protected] and [email protected]. I now want to add a third account, so i made an email [email protected] in order to add it to the account and then set up a custom email following what I understood from this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/get-a-personalized-email-address-in-microsoft-365-75416a58-b225-4c02-8c07-8979403b427b?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us.

Because both user1 and user2 emails already existed before the 365 plan the domain is not connected in the plan so user3 does not get an option for adding a custom email. So when i go to connect the domain I would need to update the DNS record of said domain.

So the main question is, if I update the DNS record would it then screw up the 2 already existing emails?

Also to note that the current MX record is **.PAMX1.HOTMAIL.COM

I am just really worried about connecting the domain and then screwing up the two emails already on there and then trying to figure that out.

Anyways I hope that wasnt too confusing and would really appreciate any help at all!

I've never messed with Microsoft 365 Family but I have messed with Microsoft 365. In Microsoft 365 it walks you through adding your domain (e.g., it'll ask you to put in a TXT DNS record in your DNS provider for domain validation then at the end of the setup it'll ask you to put in the MX DNS record). The MX record is kind of like an Email's GPS as it tells it where to go. Once you change that record, your Emails will get a new destination, breaking whatever you have setup currently (which is expected). Once you have your domain validated (added TXT DNS record), domain setup completed, have the MX DNS records in place, and you've waited the necessary amount of time for said record to update (up to 72 hours but I've never experienced it taking that long personally, I just added a domain recently and it was a few minutes), you can start migrating your email accounts over (there's videos online on how to do that for Microsoft 365, no idea if that's relatable to Microsoft 365 Family though). So yes, you will break things once you change the MX record but again, that's expected. There's probably ways to do it without the breaking aspect of the change (e.g., prioritizing the MX records) but I haven't messed with that personally.

M365 Family doesn't include mailboxes, vanity domain config etc. You need business for that. In Family you add Microsoft accounts (up to 6 total), and each has multi-activation of Office, no SharePoint, but you get a 1TB personal OneDrive.

r/Emailmarketing on Reddit: Any way to get a custom email address for a reasonable price?

I have a website with SquareSpace and I’m signed up for the Basic plan at almost $200/year. Domain name was purchased with SquareSpace. In order to have Mailerlite integration, I have to upgrade my website to the Core plan, which will bring it up to about $270/year. Okay, fine, I’ve accepted that.

Now it seems to be HEAVILY recommended that I get a custom email address (ex. [email protected]) for deliverability purposes. With Google Workspace, which is what SquareSpace recommends, that is ANOTHER $86/year minimum. For pretty much nothing. Mailerlite is my EMS and SquareSpace is providing hosting and website building services, but $86/year for simply my own name that I already paid for as an email address is something I don’t want to pay for. That’s something that should have already been included in one of the other services I’m paying for.

My point isn’t to come here and vent, though. Rather, I would like to know if there are any other services in which I could create a custom email address using my SquareSpace domain and use with Mailerlite for either cheap or completely free. Again, not to sound cheap, but that $86/year isn’t even for any actual services; Mailerlite is my EMS. I would just like to have an email address that isn’t a gmail account.

For context, I have a month-old website. It’s an author website, though I still haven’t published any books yet. Waiting on my book cover commission.

Tl;dr I would like any recommendations for a provider of cheap custom email addresses in which I could use my existing SquareSpace domain as the email domain.
