r/techsupport on Reddit: What do the voltages in Open Hardware Monitor mean? Is my PSU faulty?
November 29, 2021 -

Hi. So I've been having problems where my computer shuts down while gaming. I assume it's the PSU. I have a Thermaltake Smart 850w 80 Bronze. I downloaded Open Hardware Monitor to see my voltage but I don't really understand the numbers.

These are the max values as of now (PC is idle, not under stress from a game):

CPU VCore 0.896 V

AVCC 3.344 V

3VCC 3.344 V

3VSB 3.424 V

VBAT 3.264

VTT 1.016 V

What do these value mean, and how do I know if my PSU isn't providing enough power?

How to Check Your Power Supply on a Windows PC
Download and install HWMonitor or Open Hardware Monitor. Run the software and check the power usage of your CPU, GPU, and other components (measured in watts). While it doesn’t show PSU wattage, it gives you an idea of your system’s power needs. If you have a pre-built PC, you may find the power supply details on the manufacturer’s website by searching for your PC model. You can also check your purchase history or packaging, which may include information about the power supply.

r/techsupport on Reddit: Faulty PSU? HWMonitor results meaning?
April 17, 2016 -

Hey, so as of late my computer has been randomly powering off when the PC is under load, (gaming). After it powers off, it doesnt always respond to the power button and can take multiple attempts to get back on.

Ive eliminated the SSD and HDD's. I am beginning to think it is the PSU, so I ran HWMonitor and got some numbers but I am not certain exactly what it is that the results are indicating here. However the voltages seem rather out according to HWMonitor.

My main concern here is that the 12V is coming up as 6.82V when the minimum is meant to be like 11.64V, which I assuming is the reason my pc is turning off randomly

Here is what I got:

Hardware monitor ITE IT8620

  • Voltage 0 1.18 Volts [0x62] (CPU VCORE)

  • Voltage 1 2.02 Volts [0xA8] (VIN1)

  • Voltage 2 2.03 Volts [0xA9] (+3.3V)

  • Voltage 3 3.39 Volts [0xA8] (+5V)

  • Voltage 5 -6.82 Volts [0x8E] (-12V)

  • Voltage 6 -6.00 Volts [0x7D] (-5V)

  • Voltage 7 2.82 Volts [0x8C] (+5V VCCH)

  • Voltage 8 1.56 Volts [0x82] (VBAT)

  • Temperature 0 28°C (82°F) [0x1C] (TMPIN0)

  • Temperature 2 60°C (140°F) [0x3C] (TMPIN2)

  • Fan 0 891 RPM [0x2F6] (FANIN0)

  • Fan PWM 0 0 pc [0x0] (FANPWM0)

  • Fan PWM 1 0 pc [0x0] (FANPWM1)

  • Fan PWM 2 0 pc [0x0] (FANPWM2)

Thanks for any and all help

Where are the 100+ celcious temps coming from? I have Corsair H100i. The computer seems to be running normally, but I am confused as to where these temps are coming from. Anyone got any ideas ?

March 12, 2015 - those readings can't be right, the pc wouldnt work at all with the -12 volts that far off or the 5/3.3 so much outside limits. check in bios there's a hw monitor page usually where they show live voltages and temperatures, i suspect hwmonitor is not reading correctly. ... The problems you are describing, slow boots, user account control are not PSU related.

r/techsupport on Reddit: Can't understand Open Hardware Monitor stats, someone please help me understand!
August 9, 2023 - My desktop is 5 years old now, and I'm worried about potential component failures. So far, no signs, but a few years ago, I upgraded the CPU fan. Besides regular cleaning, I've downloaded HWMonitor, but I struggle to understand the values. It showed 3 motherboard components (TMPIN 2, 5, and 6) over 100°C, but that seems off – I figured those sensors might not be accurate. I got Open Hardware Monitor with screenshots link below.

5 Best PSU Test Software for Your Computer’s Power Supply
July 22, 2025 - When it comes to analyzing the resource consumption figures Windows itself provides a competent tool named Resource Monitor that can work as PSU test software. This utility has all the basics covered when it comes to data about the system’s memory, CPU, disk, and network stats but it’s not entirely convenient when you have tons of running apps. Sidebar Diagnostics, on the other hand, provides a more convenient solution for viewing and analyzing hardware data.
