I have tried to do this in the past and there is no built-in way to do this in Chrome. There is a Chrome extension called "Open Tabs Next to Current" I think it is called that can do this.
You can set a keyboard shortcut too via the extension for opening a new tab next to the currently active tab. Click the "Keyboard shortcuts" tab. Then, enter a keyboard shortcut in the "Open new tab next to current tab" field.

The easiest solution is to use an extension. Otherwise, you may create a keyboard shortcut for a new tab to the right, but it has to typed into the address bar.
Do this :
- Open Chrome Settings > Search engine
- Click "Manage search engines and site search"
- Next to "Site search" click "Add"
- Enter the following:
- Search engine : Anything you like, for example "New tab to right"
- Shortcut : The characters to type into the address field, example
xx - URL : Enter
javascript:window.open()
- Now entering
xxin the address field will open a new tab to the right.
For further improvement, you may use a macro utility such as AutoHotKey to create a keyboard shortcut that will position to the address bar and type these characters for you.
I have an online website I set to open as my "Home Page". I would like new tabs to open to the same page. For the life of me I can no longer find that option in settings...
I feel like this should be such an easy setting to find, but I can't even figure out how to google it without bringing up totally irrelevant / old guides. There are many links (Google Meet, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) that you are given an option to open in a new tab or in the Chrome app. And there is a checkbox to set your selections as default...
I accidentally clicked Select as Default for Google Meet to open in the app, instead of in a new tab. So now all my Google Meets are going to another window. I can manually open new Google Meets by right clicking on the meeting link (like in the calendar invite) and then "Open link in new tab". But I cannot figure out how to change the default back to "Open link in new tab", or otherwise reset the setting so it asks me again every time for the app.
I hope that long explanation was clear? I'm sure it's on Google but whatever combination of search terms I use (like "default open tab chrome app..." just brings up totally irrelevant results like how to open files (jpg, pdf, etc.) in a particular app by default...or how to open specific tabs on startup.
Thanks in advance for helping me revert this setting (hopefully without a factory reset?).
EDIT: The replies suggesting to right click on the app icon while the app is running in order to get more setting options worked!
Chrome had an option that made all links open up in their own tabs. After clearing my cookies/cache, that setting seemed to have stopped and I can’t find it again. Is there still a default option or did Google remove it?
Clicking on the links and selecting "Open in New Window" is slowing me down. Its a repetitive task and the seconds are adding up.
I looked for a solution but could not find one.
