March 1, 2019 - Opposite of Always is an emotional and tender glimpse at Jack’s quest for love, friendship, and family. Reynolds writes this delicious tension between not knowing how Jack’s six months will turn out – will he have his happy ending and what does that mean for Jack?

Opposite of Always Book Review | Common Sense Media
March 8, 2019 - Parents need to know that Opposite of Always, Justin A. Reynolds' debut novel, is a bittersweet fantasy tale about a teen caught in a loop in time between the day he meets his girlfriend and the day she dies a few months later. Jack doesn't travel through time deliberately.

Book Review: Opposite of Always – Rich in Color
At it’s heart, Opposite of Always is a romantic comedy with a slice of science fiction-ness mixed in. And I loved it for it. Jack is just an average geeky teenager in the last few months of his senior year when he meets Kate, who is just as geeky, during a college visit.

Book Review: Opposite of Always – The Modest Reader
March 31, 2022 - This is another book I read back in 2020, but this one has stuck with me a little bit more than the last. Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds gave me time-travelling Groundhog Day vibes (but with YA stakes) that I’ve enjoyed before—and it didn’t get past me that the characters’ names were Jack and Kate, like in Titanic.

Opposite of Always by Justin a. Reynolds Book Review
This time around Jack really puts Kate first in this life and I just think that since he lost Kate the first time around, he was so shocked to see her again that he felt consumed by the need to always be with her. I think Jack feels like he should have spent more time with her and in getting to know her and if he had done that before, he would have known Kate was sick and that he could have helped prevent her death the first time. So I understand why he would spend every waking minute with her, but at the same time, I wanted to take Jack aside and tell him he can’t save everyone. Because he’s so focused on Kate, it’s kind of hard to see how all his healthy, strong relationships with his family and friends diminish.

BOOK REVIEW: Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds
September 29, 2019 - Opposite of Always follows the king of Almost – Jack Ellison King, to be exact. Jack is firmly stuck in the middle of everything – never a failure and never quite a success. He doesn’t get the girl, but he’s her best friend. He’s not a stellar musician, he’s just all right.

Book Review: “Opposite of Always” by Justin A. Reynolds
October 16, 2021 - Opposite of Always feels like an awkward mash-up of Groundhog Day, (500) Days of Summer, and A Walk to Remember. Not only does it feature a time loop like that in the Bill Murray film, but Jack also has Tom Hanson’s obsessive, self-pitying tendencies. At the beginning of the novel, Jack proclaims to the reader that he’s the king of almost, listing off all the hobbies at which he hoped to become an expert.
