July 2, 2024 - I don't use this exact type of rope, I use the copper wire fairy lights that are connected to the same type of solar thingy. I buy the 2pk warm light. I place them all over the garden, in my clumping bamboo is my favorite area. Purchased 5-7 times. I just reordered to replace one that has been going for like 5 years.

We purchased our home 12 years ago. When we bought it there was rope lighting that surrounded the house. As 3/4 of our home is visible from the street, this made it attractive. Over the years the rope lighting started having spots that stopped working. Now there's only a few feet that work.
We'd like to replace it.

For security. The light the rope light put out did a nice job or providing a soft light all around the house.

For beauty. It just looks good on our house.

For the holidays. It's nearly there and she'd like some lights on the house.
We have multiple light fixtures where instead of a lightbulb there is an electrical plug (I'm sure installed by the original owner of the home). So, the switches for the fixtures will power the lights.
What should I purchase? Rope, LED, OR??? I know nothing about lights.
Is there a particular source I should look to purchase from?
Should I be looking at something waterproof? Does such a thing exist?

I work in the lighting industry. What your looking for is essentially tapelight. Something that is wet rated for outdoor purposes. Tapelight usually has a sticky side and LED on the other. You use the sticky side to mount the tapelight to what you want. You can put the light in extrusions to create different looks. From what you're doing I would recommend tapelight outdoor rated ip65 and ip67. A company in California does this called Tivoli. They have different brightness, rgb tape and different CRI ratings. CRI is the color rendering index. Color looks better with higher CRI. There's stuff that is line voltage (120v) or low voltage, 12v or 24v. Getting low voltage will help you save more energy.
