Dear - Unaiz Shehzad,

Many thanks for the response. Yes, since you bought the domain name and the domain email through GoDaddy, you can purchase the Microsoft plan through GoDaddy's website. If you purchase the Microsoft plan through GoDaddy, you can still use your domain email with Outlook. You will need to configure your domain email account in Outlook using the correct server settings provided by GoDaddy. If you need assistance with this, you can contact GoDaddy's customer support team or refer to their documentation for instructions.

If our information was helpful, we also invite you to vote the reply so that others may find it easier.

Please feel free to let me know if there are any updates or if I've got you wrong. If still have any concern, please let me know so I can provide further suggestion.

Is it possible to have some domain email addresses managed by Outlook and some managed by the domain itself?
It seems like you are confused about what DNS is doing here. Your domain has a DNS record called MX which identifies where e-mail sent to anyone in your domain should be sent. If you've done that, then its done. Unless you want to add another domain you don't need to touch DNS. Usually this is part of verifying your domain which makes it available within your office 365 tennant (all 365 tennants start with an onmicrosoft.com address which you choose but then can have custom domains added) If you have a mailbox then that has a primary SMTP address. This is both a receiving addresss and all e-mail sent from this mailbox will come from this address. In your example this is [email protected] What it sounds like you want to do is modify your mailbox and add additional alias of [email protected] , [email protected] and [email protected] . Having your domain registered with Microsoft should allow you to add these three alias to a single mailbox. At that point e-mail sent to any of them will arrive into a single mailbox. You only need to buy additional accounts if you need a lot of alias', if you need to be able to send from those e-mail addresses or you want to intentionally separate them for security or management reasons. Dear - Unaiz Shehzad,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Based on your description, I understand that you have a query "Can I use outlook with my domain email? if yes, would I need a Microsoft 365 subscription or can I use it through the Home Office (one-time payment option) plan as well?"

Yes, you can use your domain email with Microsoft Outlook. To do so, you would need to have a Microsoft 365 subscription that includes Exchange Online. The Home Office and Business plan is a one-time payment option and does not include Exchange Online, so it would not be suitable for using your domain email with Outlook.

Exchange Online is a cloud-based email service that is included in Microsoft 365 Business Standard, Microsoft 365 Business Premium, and Microsoft 365 Enterprise plans. It allows you to use your own domain name with Outlook and provides additional features such as shared calendars, contacts, and tasks.

If you do not need the other apps included in Microsoft 365, you can consider subscribing to Exchange Online as a standalone service. This would allow you to use your domain email with Outlook without having to pay for the other apps.

I hope the above information will be helpful. Please feel free to let me know if there are any updates or if I've got you wrong. If still have any concern, please let me know so I can provide further suggestion.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation. Thanks for your precious time!

Thanks for your help. It saved me from spending hours and hours trying to make something work that won't work.

You're welcome. Just for the sake of accuracy in terms of what "Outlook" you are referring to

#1 - "Outlook on the web" (accessing an Outlook.com account via a browser) does not allow adding any external mail accounts

#2 - The "new Outlook", is essentially "Outlook on the web" wrapped in an app framework with the added functionality of being able to add external IMAP accounts. It is the intended replacement for the Windows 10 / 11 Mail, People, Calendar apps

#3 - The classic Outlook desktop program (part of Office is the full blown email client to which any number of POP, IMAP, Exchange accounts can be added

I have an article with screenshots of what people refer to as Outlook

Hello Gerry J

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

Not sure what exactly it is that you are asking.

If your question is about using the Outlook.com service as your email service provider assigning yor custom domain to it, then the answer is that it cannot be done. The custom domain feature was discontinued on Nov 30, 2023 and even then, it required having a Microsoft 365 subscription and the domain registered with GoDaddy

To add it to the "new Outlook" requires that you have an existing email provider for this domain, have an existing email account created at which point you can add it as an external IMAP account.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, we're here to help you further if needed.

Dear Bunpot Assawarungsee

Thanks for your quick reply!

If you start subscribing to Microsoft 365 Business (Standard), you can surely use customized domain. However, you can't use the same email address for a commercial Microsoft 365 email account and a consumer Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com account. So, your current outlook.com account and your business account would be kind of separated. You may try to set up a forwarding/redirecting rule for your outlook.com account so that the mails sent to it would be visible to your business account.

Generally, when you sign up Microsoft 365 business service, it creates a domain for you, like contoso.onmicrosoft.com. The user ID that you create when you sign up includes the domain, like ******@contoso.onmicrosoft.com.

If you want to have your email look like ******@contoso.com, you can buy a domain or just follow the steps in Add your users and domain to Microsoft 365 if you own it already. And you can keep using the initial onmicrosoft.com domain even after you add your domain. It still works for email and other services, so it's your choice.

You can also replace your onmicrosoft.com domain after sign-up. While you can’t rename or remove an existing onmicrosoft.com domain, you can create a new one and make it your default onmicrosoft.com domain (your "fallback domain"). For example, if the initial domain you chose was fourthcoffee.onmicrosoft.com, if needed you can create a new onmicrosoft.com domain called fourthcoffeecorp.onmicrosoft.com and set it to be your fallback domain.

Dear Bunpot Assawarungsee

Greetings!

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community!

Based on your description, I understand your need to get a customized domain name to replace your "outlook.com" email for your business.

Unfortunately, according to Changes to Microsoft 365 email features and storage - Microsoft Support, starting November 30, 2023, Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer be able to create a new email address for any personalized domain associated with their Outlook.com mailbox.

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation. I wish you all the best!

r/Office365 on Reddit: Use personalized domain with outlook and Office 365 Home family
September 8, 2018 -

Ever since I got my home office 365 family subscription, I had my eye on the option for the personalized domain name in outlook. However, according to Microsoft, only domains hosted with GoDaddy could be connected and used.

Now, to be fair, GoDaddy is probably a fine company to use for DNS hosting, but I don't want to switch registrars.

But I pieced information together how to get the personal domain in outlook without even using or switching to GoDaddy and use my current hoster!

  1. Go to outlook, the premium settings and choose the option to "get started" with a personalized domain.

  2. Click the option to buy a new domain with GoDaddy, and a new window opens

  3. Copy the URL of the new window that opens, it should look like this: https://domainconnect.godaddy.com/v2/domainTemplates/providers/outlook.com/services/personalizedoutlookemail/apply?mxRecordValue=XXXXXXXXX&state=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX..... The part that you need is "mxRecordValue=XXXXXXXXX" The XXXXXXXXX is the unique ID for verification used in DNS

  4. Go to your own domain DNS settings and add the following settings replacing XXXXXXXXX with your ID found in step 3.(Note, these settings are for TransIP specific, your own DNS manager may use a different syntax!)

Name TTL Type Value
@ 1 hour MX 0 XXXXXXXXX.pamx1.hotmail.com.
@ 1 hour TXT v=spf1 include:outlook.com -all
autodiscover 1 hour CNAME autodiscover.outlook.com.
_dmarc 1 hour TXT v=DMARC1; p=none;
_domainconnect 1 hour CNAME _domainconnect.gd.domaincontrol.com.
_outlook 1 hour TXT XXXXXXXXX

The dot on the end of the external domains is not a typo!

5. Return to the premium settings in outlook to set your custom domain.

6. Choose the option "I already have a domain"

7. Enter the domain you just configured

8. You have to click to login to GoDaddy, do this, but just exit the page it goes to.

9. Congratulations it should now say you connected the domain with GoDaddy!

r/Outlook on Reddit: Is it possible to have some domain email addresses managed by Outlook and some managed by the domain itself?
March 11, 2024 -

I have a possibly stupid question and one that may not belong here, but I'm struggling to google the answer.

I have a domain for my law firm, and in order to use Office365/outlook to send emails and use office apps, I changed my domain's DNS settings (M Record) to allow [email protected] to send and receive email through outlook's servers.

I also would like to have email addresses such as [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. Those do not currently function to send or receive email. In order to add emails through Microsoft Office 365, I would have to purchase more 365 licenses for each of these - but they won't be accounts needing all those features - I just want them to receive email.

I added a new M record with a higher number priority with mail.domain.com, and I know DNS records can take up to 72 hours to populate. But will adding a second M DNS record for mail.domain.com get these to function, or is there another way to have these email inboxes work without their own entire office 365 accounts?

Or, alternatively, do I need to undo the Office 365 DNS migration for outlook, and have all of my mail go through the domain and set up my email as an IMAP email in outlook?

Lower priorty MX records act like backup records - the first is normally used and mail will be delivered here. You can't really split emails between 2 different hosts in the way you're describing. You can achieve what you're after without any extra cost on 365 - by either adding aliases to existing mailboxes (as NikSheppard has suggested above), adding the addresses as distribution groups ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/setup/create-distribution-lists?view=o365-worldwide ) or shared mailboxes ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/email/about-shared-mailboxes?view=o365-worldwide ) There is no additional cost for aliases or shared mailboxes - this should achieve what you need.
