Why We Love the OXO Brew Conical Burr Coffee Grinder
February 11, 2025 - Finding a balance between performance and price is tricky, and as a 16-year coffee industry vet, I think the OXO Brew Conical Burr Coffee Grinder walks that line excellently. As senior culinary editor Daniel Gritzer said in our coffee grinder review, “Priced at the low end of what a person can hope to pay for a decent burr grinder, this is the one to get if you want to up your coffee game by playing with grind settings but don't want to shell out for our other top picks.” And I agree with him—the next grinder I recommend is nearly 50% more expensive.

OXO burr grinder..
I have one that I picked up with a $20 off coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond, so I paid around $70 for it. At the time no one had a baratza for sale or I would have spent the extra money for that. For the price it’s fairly quiet, fairly consistent grinds, fairly easy to use and clean. The grinds catcher is great as I don’t have chaff all over and the static is well controlled. My one negative on this grinder is it retains a lot of coffee after you grind. I’ll grind up a 30 gram dose for a V-60 and have to run it well past when the beans have left the hopper to get all the coffee out. I like the grinder. I don’t love it. Your milage may vary. For an electric kettle, I have a Bodum kettle for $35 at Target, then bought a thermometer from Fellows for $5 and after widening one of the lid vent holes, stuck it there. It does the job and I’m happy with it even though I picked up a Fellow Stagg. More on reddit.com

Does anyone have an OXO conical burr grinder?
Hi - I'm at same place as you - Bambino Plus for 6 months and OXO. Using fairly fresh medium roast beans, I have to go <2.0 - rn I'm at 1.3. This seems to work for me and tastes pretty good. Its just made me realize I need a really good grinder - and that what I thought was a quick am espresso has become an obsession and probably expensive. But I love it! I had to breakout Excel and start tracking grind size, grams in, grams out and time. whew! More on reddit.com

Will I see a significant improvement from an upgraded grinder if I do not make espresso?
Do you need an upgrade or just want to spend money? Diminishing returns are going to start impacting you after your current grinder and the improvements aren't going to be drastic. If you are running $30/lb light roast Yirgacheffe 2x a day then it may be worth it to you. More on reddit.com

Coffee Grinder Review: Oxo Brew Conical Burr Grinder - Coffee Review
June 17, 2020 - We’ve also seen grinders a little cheaper than the Oxo Brew do a bit better, like the Breville Smart Grinder Pro, also reviewed this month. Yet, so far as we can determine, no other machine in the Oxo Brew’s price class grinds by weight, and we didn’t realize just how seductive that built-in scale would be until we lived with it for a while. The Bottom Line. Often when it comes to matters of convenience, the question is, do you want something done easily, or do you want it done right? While not a slam dunk, we find the Oxo Brew Conical Burr Grinder With Integrated Scale comes appreciably close to both.

Why You Should Skip the OXO Brew Conical Burr Grinder (And What to Get Instead)
March 7, 2025 - One of the most overlooked (but frustrating) things about the OXO Burr Grinder is its height. It stands at almost 17 inches, which means it won’t fit under most standard kitchen cabinets. ... • Pull it out from under the cabinet every morning just to fill the hopper (which gets annoying fast). ... If you don’t want a grinder that takes up too much space and becomes a hassle to use, skip the OXO. ... OXO makes some great kitchen products, but their coffee grinder just doesn’t feel premium.

August 4, 2025 -

I'm brand new to the pour over game and am in the market for a decent grinder. My budget is $300 or less, I was considering the Baratza Encore ESP for the upgraded burrs and range (I also have a barista express). Then there is the (coming soon) Baratza Encore ESP Pro, includes some QOL features but otherwise the same grind, this pushes the Encore to the $300 range.

ESP and Pro versions aside basically everything points to the Baratza Encore, but the few head to head comparisons of the OXO conical burr and the Encore say they're grind quality is about the same which leaves me thinking, why spend up to $300 when I can spend $100 on the OXO...

What are peoples thoughts here between the two?

In cups mode, the strength adjuster can fine tune your ratio for a weaker or stronger brew. Bean hopper can be removed while coffee is still inside thanks to the locking "trap door". Large capacity bean hopper holds 16 oz. of whole coffee beans and is tinted to keep harmful UV rays away from coffee so it stays fresher longer. No-bean detector won't let you grind if the hopper is empty. 40mm stainless steel upper burr is removable for easy cleaning.

Hi I am in need of my first burr grinder and this OXO grinder is at my local target and I'm intrigued.

https://www.target.com/p/oxo-brew-conical-burr-coffee-grinder-stainless-steel/-/A-54635218#lnk=sametab

It is 50 bucks cheaper than the one everyone seems to recommend and even less with a 25 dollar gift card I got from work. Consumer reviews and youtube types seem to like it.

I will be using it for pour over , aero, and French press. No need for espresso (I am but a coffee embryo) .

If you have this grinder or have used it would you recommend it with the circumstances I've laid out?

thanks for your help

side question : electric kettle better than stove top for getting that ideal temp???

Disclaimer: very satisfied OXO owner and user, but I'll soon be upgrading for that "next level". For the price it seems like you'd be paying, it's a great first purchase. I use it for pour over (Wave and V60), aeropress, and French press, and don't have any major complaints. Keep in mind that while it will certainly be a good introduction to burr grinding, there will come a point when you start eyeing the higher-quality models. But the OXO is an affordable option that will help you identify your needs and preferences. As for electric vs stovetop, an electric with digital readout can help you hit your ideal temp for coffees, teas, etc.
