When you submit your name you can also give a pronunciation spelling. For example Michael would be something like 'My Kel'

There’s 3 tiers to this. There is a time window where you can call a number and the recording asks you to say your name several times, 1 very slowly. If you miss that window then you submit phonetic spelling. IF YOU MISS THAT, then someone will actually say your name rather than the recording. This is how it worked for spring ‘22 commencement IIRC. Edit: year. No commencement in ‘21 lol
