We put our garden and fire pit area in the center-right of our yard instead of up against a fence. This gives our dog (cane corso) a big oval she can do her zoomies around while cutting the maintained space down by about 1/3 ( the unmaintained portion is half is a small fenced in raised bed garden with mulch the other half is river rock around a fire pit). We also have some misc rose bushes and small trees along a fence line for privacy/looks. So we have enough space for the dog to fully sprint around the yard and have a nice garden and fire pit area. And all of the grassways are wide enough for the landscapers riding mower to drive through, etc. Worked out pretty well. We didn't do it perfectly centered in the yard so one side is still a bigger grassy space for her to play in and such with the most narrow strip of grass being maybe 36" and that's between our patio and the garden. The beds + firpit area takes up maybe 20'x40' of the yard, and the rest is all grass. The main goal was to keep a continuous circle for her to run and keep the full width at some points so she can really run, even if only for a few seconds. For the grass, we just seed the patches areas every year. Last year under the tree got a little muddy so we seeded it pretty heavily and threw down some straw matting and it worked pretty well. November 21, 2018 - Backyard landscaping can be beautiful even if a dog lives at the residence.
People also ask

Is artificial grass safe for dogs?

Yes, high-quality artificial turf is safe for dogs and may even have some potential health benefits for dogs over real grass (lack of fleas, allergens, toxins, etc.).

In the past, artificial grass often contained harmful chemicals and lead. Most high-quality artificial grass manufacturers have eliminated these from the process. So, if you choose a reputable artificial grass installation company like DFW Turf Solutions, exposure to harmful substances will not be an issue for your family or pets.

DIY is not recommended with pet turf if you want your artificial grass area to last up to two decades, which is possible with a high-quality installation.

The ground needs to be prepared properly and measures taken to prevent pet odors and excessive wear and tear. All pet turf installed by DFW Turf Solutions is protected by a 15-year limited warranty which covers any work defects.

r/landscaping on Reddit: Large Dog-Friendly Landscaping Ideas?
November 5, 2023 -

Does anyone have big dogs AND a reasonably nice back yard? I would love to know if that is even possible, and how you did it. I have two 90-lb dogs that have destroyed the grass by running around and rough housing. Now we have a yard full of grass tufts and dirt, which will be a disaster this winter when the rain comes and turns everything to mud. I am open to just about anything except paving the yard. Thanks!
