This will be our first car seat ever and like many, I'm very drawn to the features and overall safety ratings of the Nuna infant car seat. It is however much more expensive compared to the Joie, which is our other top choice right now. I am only asking for car seat opinions, not strollers at this time. I know about the flame retardant issue, but since straps in almost all car seats are still formulated with them, it's much less of a concern for me. Overall durability and crash safety are the most important thing to me. Help!

We were very happy with our Pipa. So much so we bought the rava now that our kiddo is older. It is so light weight and easy to maneuver. Also the pockets for the buckles are really nice.

I’d look up complaints about customer service, specifically about recalls or having to replace anything with their products. We were debating between Nuna and Uppababy, and ended up going Uppababy because of the reassurance.

I have not actually received the car seat yet but my parents ordered it off of our registry as part of the mixx travel system.
I went to a store where they had demos showing the install and explaining the differences between the URBN and the AIRE and I thought the URBN seemed to offer for travel flexibility and honestly the base seemed wasteful if it’s not significantly safer. Especially since the whole car seat will only be able to be used for like a year. Then we would move on to a sturdier, long term, convertible car seat.
I see people complaining about how much of a pain it is to take a baseless car seat in and out, is it really that bad? In the store it looked easy. I don’t drive very often. I also don’t take Ubers or taxis very often. I just thought it would be nice to have the option to install it in someone else’s car if we needed to.
Maybe it’s not a big deal and the car seat is good enough? I guess as a FTM it looked streamlined and innovative compared to the base seats, but I don’t know how it plays out in practice. I don’t want to have to ask for the gift from my parents early so that I can return or exchange it within the 30 day window. I hope I’m just overthinking.

We have the Joie (Nuna’s sister company) mint latch car seat which is baseless, and it’s sooo easy. This is my first baby, so never had a car seat with a base, but I don’t see how it could get any easier. It takes maybe 3 seconds tops and we never have any issue with it. We don’t take ubers or taxis either, but love it anyway!

I have the Nuna pipa rx and the triv stroller. The pipa urbn did not have all the safety features I wanted, as another user mentioned above. Would really only get it if you plan to take Ubers/taxis etc. I also tested the trvl stroller in store along with the triv and mixx. The trvl, while very lightweight and easily collapsible, did not have the option to rear face when using the stroller seat (you can rear face the car seat though). It also felt very flimsy, as though a strong breeze could knock it over. The triv could rear face, it was only about 5 lbs heavier, and it collapsed just as easily. I preferred it over the mixx which was very large and much heavier. Overall, if you are just using it in your own car to go about your town, I wouldn’t recommend this system, but I would recommend other products in the Nuna line. We paid $400 for the pipa rx and $700 for the triv stroller. For reference

Since Nuna pipa URBN does not come with a base you would need to secure the car seat in your car every time as opposed to just clicking it in place. We opted for nuna pipa RX instead for this reason (which we also bought on Nordstrom anniversary sale today!)
