Question on using 1/2 inch plywood for entertainment center | Sawmill Creek Woodworking Community
August 11, 2008 - Shane, I recently completed a smallish entertainment center using ¾ ply mdf with maple ply for the sides, top and bottom. However, I used ½ ply veneered with maple for the center vertical pieces. I framed the sides and top with 7/8 inch thick solid maple. July 9, 2020 - I decided to embrace the all-plywood look on this build and made the case of the cabinet out of a 5x5 sheet of 3/4” Baltic Birch plywood. August 9, 2021 - I really didn't have a plan for the legs when I first started. So, near the end of the build I decided to make three legs that spanned the width/depth of the cabinet because I knew it would be holding a lot of weight (large TV and DVD/VHS items). I literally just glued a few pieces of plywood together (I may have added a screw or two) and cut a nice angle (I forget which degree) and glued them to the bottom of the unit.

How to Make a DIY Entertainment Center Look Professional
September 22, 2025 - I don’t want a toe-kick on my entertainment center so I didn’t include this in my measurements. If your cabinets will have a face frame, and you want everything to be flush to the floor instead of set back, make accommodations for that in your base dimensions. I built my base out of leftover maple from the sheets that I ripped down on another project. Ripping down a sheet of plywood means that I took a large 8′ x 4′ sheet of wood and cut it into the sizes that I needed for the shelves and cabinets with my saw.
