IS MARBLE TILE GOOD FOR SHOWERS?
Natural stone marble can be used in showers with several caveats. Marble is a soft stone that is very porous with natural fissures. Depending on the iron level of the marble (which varies widely), consistent exposure to moisture and humidity can cause discoloration. Therefore, marble must be sealed before use and resealed on a regular basis. Avoid using acid-based cleaners as they cause etching and compromise sealants. For those who feel this sounds like too much work, marble look tile would be a better option for you. With porcelain, none of these precautions apply as it is impervious to wat

WHAT TILE LOOKS LIKE MARBLE?
Tile is manufactured so there is no type of tile that inherently looks like marble. However, with advancements in tile design and production, ceramic and porcelain tile can be made to look virtually indistinguishable from natural stone marble. Because Daltile quarries genuine marble in addition to manufacturing ceramic and porcelain tile, our natural marble beauties serve as a template for producing the most realistic-looking faux marble tile on the market today.

My Favorite Porcelain Marble Tile - Angela Marie Made
August 12, 2025 - Our hexagon floor tile came really well packaged and it was a thick porcelain tile. There were no chips on any of the tiles either and it seemed very durable. The top design of the tile really looked like marble too, very authentic looking for not actually being real marble. It was exactly the kind of marble look I wanted for our classic and modern master bathroom makeover.

r/HomeImprovement on Reddit: What are your thoughts on porcelain tile that are stone “look-alike” for a small 8’x5’ bathroom? Shower walls?
September 22, 2022 -
I’ve been looking at marble tile for shower walls (fiberglass pan) and bathroom floor. The horror stories about marble got me looking the other way.
I think they look cheap but maybe thats just my own small sample size at Floor and Decor.

We did the marble look porcelain tiles in a 12x24 format for our floors and shower, for the shower base we used the flat pebbles tile, the pan is a 3x3. We had a shower nice put in with glass tiles and we tied it together with the frame less glass shower doors. Absolutely love the look of it.

No reason you can't put porcelain/ceramic tiles in a bathroom if that's what you want (although I loved the marble bathrooms I had and they posed no problems whatsoever). I would suggest that you look at a larger sample before deciding on your tile, though, because sometimes there are (intentionally) varying colors/shades in a box.
