I once built a port scanner when I was in a large company and my team was moving building, previously when we had done this not all our ports had been open and it caused production issues. Over the weekend I ran the port scanner against all ports to our production hosts from our current office, and then did the same in our new office and diffed the output of the two. Monday morning I had a very angry email from network security ops, and I had to get a director to retroactively sign this off. Among other things they seemed upset I coded the port scanner myself so they couldn't block whatever software I used.

I tried to build a port scanner a while ago. I was able to get TCP working without issue, but UDP was a bit odd. Basically every target port would be listed as open. Anyone ever get it to work?
