Razer huntsman v2 analog or linear optical?
I was just at Micro Center and tried all of the display keyboards. I actually did NOT want it to be clicky, wanted it to be as quiet as possible and feel the best. Got the Huntsman V2 with Linear Optical Red Switches and it’s the best keyboard I’ve ever had. I love typing on it. More on reddit.com

Difference Between Gen-1 and Gen-2 Optical Analog Switches?
Gen 2 switches have lower quality and cause some problems like double typing letters for example so it's more like huge downgrade from gen 1 to gen 2. More on reddit.com

Are the razer purple and optical switches loud?
They are clicky but not obnoxiously loud like the older razer green switches. I have them in the mini and actually prefer them over the linear switches. You can also lube the sides of each switch and that helps a little, not a lot but it does help some. More on reddit.com

Razer Huntsman V2 Analog - The best Razer board to date
I am someone who isn't really a keyboard lover, I'm more of a switch lover. I'm into vintage boards, Alps, Hall Effects, Optoelectric the smoothness of contactless switches brings me back to when keyboards actually felt nice.Along came the custom keyboard community and made it dominantly MX-based. I've never been an MX switch fan, they all feel nasty, scratchy, and need lube in the switches to actually feel acceptable and when you do that, you're not feeling the switch anymore you're essentially feeling the lube. When MX started to turn into hack jobs, Alpacas, Tangerines all these funky switches which are basically different variations of JWK switches which are MX based experimenting with different materials to get them smoother but still needing lube to feel smooth; I did dabble in the custom side of switches/keyboards. I did enjoy it, well the custom side of it, the switch side is basically copied and pasted with the differences being microscopic. Don't get me started about how toxic the community has become but that's a different topic. Razer The first few generations of Razer boards were just shocking, horrible MX switch boards with horrible font and overpriced, gave Razer a bad name in my opinion as far as boards came. When Razer switched to Optoelectric switches, I did a little dance but decided to hang back still. I ended up trying the Huntsman TKL, Elite, and Mini. Awesome, super smooth, light-weighting; the only switches smoother were arguably the Omnipoint Hall Effects, Wooting one, and some old-school Hall Based boards in the past. The downside was the stabs and some of them, the TKL in particular, and rattly stabs, and actuated too fast. The sound of those boards also wasn't to my preference of thocky, meaty sounding boards. Along comes the Analog, I didn't really look into it until fairly recently I didn't bother for a while as I was more focused on other stuff like the birth of my son, work, upgrading other equipment I had. I pretty much forgot about it until about 6 weeks ago when I came across a review from a fellow vintage board colleague on youtube who gave it a great review and when it come to the sound test, my god the sound of this board was amazing. For an optoelectric switch, even by MX standards, this board sounded lovely, thocky, deep bassy, stable. I'm a fan of light switches for linear or contractless but I've always also loved a bit of weight to switches also, gives it some nice perceived smoothness, more solid feeling albeit can be fatiguing after a while but you get used to it. I don't even care about analog as much as I love the sound and feel of these tight, smooth smoothness, these are even smoother than the Gateron Hall Effect switches found in the Apex Pro although those switches are lighter. Stabs for a razer board? feels good, sounds good, no lubing needing unlike everything found in MX switches. No MX switch, Tangerine, Black Inks, feel anywhere close to the smoothness or sound these produce I would describe them as full sounding with a buttery but strong feels in the hand. I've been quite smitten by this board in all honesty, I also have a GMMK Pro with Alpaca switches along with an Apex Pro. My GMMK Pro isn't even close to the value and smoothness of this board and my razer stabs came out better than the GMMK Pro's did stock. The authoritative thock of this board makes me just want to type on it all day, even with different plates thrown in the GMMK Pro there's a satisfaction this Huntsman V2 Analog gives me.Oh yeah, the Analog feature, I've not even bothered to use it, I paid £130 for this board I feel with the switches, sound, feeling this board gives me I've got my monies worth and the Analog feature will be a bonus when I start to tune it in. As mentioned I'm more of a switches feel kinder guy rather than what the board can do. I was going to post this on r/ MechanicalKeyboards but sadly you get some insecure members that like to ruin people's posts about "Gaming boards" overlooking that actually, this is an excellent contactless switch board and it is a lovely sounding and feeling board too. I recommend this board if you love contactless switches and don't particularly enjoy Cherry MX and the millions of clones or obviously looking for an analog capable board, I enjoy the adjustable per key actuation although it's a shorter range than the Apex Pro by 0.5 it's no issue to me. I'm personally more of a type and hoover rather than resting on the keys so for me, I rarely have issues with errors but YMMV. More on reddit.com

r/razer on Reddit: Difference Between Gen-1 and Gen-2 Optical Analog Switches?
June 13, 2024 -

Hey everyone!

I’ve been looking to downsize my keyboard from the Huntsman Elite to a Huntsman Mini. I used prefer the clicky optical (purple) switches, but I am in love with my friend’s optical analog switches on his huntsman and I am ready to make the change! I noticed the Huntsman V3 Pro Mini comes standard with the Gen-2 switches and original Huntsman Mini has an “analog version” with the Gen-1 switches. Currently, the V3 Pro Mini is listed for $179.99 and the original Mini Analog is listed for $79.99 (on discount from $149.99).

My major questions before purchasing are…

  1. What are the differences between the Optical Analog Gen-1 Switches and the Optical Analog Gen-2 Switches?

  2. Is the difference large enough to justify the current $100 difference between the Huntsman V3 Pro Mini and the Huntsman Mini Analog?

  3. Are there any other notable differences between the two keyboards beyond the Gen-1 to Gen-2 switch upgrade?

I’ve looked around the internet and couldn’t find much help on this topic. Thank you for reading and replying! Have a good day :)

Razer Keyboard Switches - How to Pick the RIGHT One
February 10, 2021 - The Razer Huntsman fits into this optical category with two variations, Clicky or Linear, and this falls into Razer’s premium switch and premium performance category, which is slightly more expensive. Nevertheless, the Huntsman TE TKL model is incredibly well-priced, and especially the 60% model with the incredible Gen2 switches. And that leads us to the analog direction with the Tartarus Pro, which is the only keypad on the market right now to feature analog controls.
