I can see an allen head inside that little hole on the bottom. Right where it should be. Changing a shower cartridge can be tricky. Careful pulling it out. Answer from long_ben_pirate on reddit.com

r/HomeImprovement on Reddit: Shower Handle Without A Screw?
July 20, 2022 -

Hey all, I'm trying to replace a faulty shower cartridge. The shower components have no brand names anywhere, and google searching them has revealed no matches.

SitRep: https://imgur.com/a/ROVB3nh

To replace the cartridge, I need to remove the shower handle from the wall. There are two steps, a hole on the bottom of the handle SHOULD (but conspicuously does not) have a screw or Allen keyhole in it to remove the handle. Second, a cosmetic metal plate covers the screw threading on the pipe.

As you can see from the pictures, the cosmetic threading cover can be twisted until it almost entirely off of the pipe. But the problem is there is no screw or Allen keyhole in the base of the handle (also in photos).

Despite the hole where a screw should be, the handle is extremely well-fastened onto what I'm guessing is the internal twist/control rod. There was some kind of caulking filling up the hole (in place of a screw) which I've carefully bored out.

Any tips on how to remove the handle without damaging the control rod?

Thanks!

December 14, 2013 - There is nothing to put anything into. ... Since it's metal, then I would still use CLR (that's the other brand I was trying to think of) or LimeAway. That hard water build up can make removing faucet handles very difficult. Under that button there should be a set screw.

October 2, 2022 - Unscrew the lever that is attached to the shower ‘knob’ / this may be tight and the thread scaled up which doesn’t help You don’t want to damage the chrome so if you need to use pliers, wrap the jaws with cloth to protect the chrome (but does then affect the grip) Once you’ve removed lever, and it will unscrew, there’s a few common methods used to attach lever / knob 1. The knob may just unscrew and be threaded itself, shine a light inside the hole that you’ve just removed lever from and may be a grub screw inside which secures knob onto cartridge spindle 2.
