RICHARD RODGERS THEATRE (2026) All You MUST Know Before You Go (w/ Reviews)
What an amazing theatre and production! Seeing it live was amazing and I love that this is a smaller venue. It didn't seem like there was a bad seat in the house (although others have said the balcony seats are quite small) Our orchestra row R seats were perfect. ... This was a trip of a lifetime. We went to see Hamilton at the Richard Rogers theater and it was an amazing experience.

Chanin almost immediately leased it to the Shuberts, who bought the building outright in 1931 and renamed it the 46th Street Theatre. In 1982, it was purchased and renovated by the Nederlander Organization, who in 1990 changed the name to the Richard Rodgers Theatre in memory of the composer Richard Rodgers.

You should know that you are going to see Hamilton. /j For bags, basically if it can’t fit comfortably on the floor by your legs, you may not be allowed to have it there. I don’t know if they do coat or bag checks in the spring. Time of arrival should be no earlier than 30 minutes prior to show time. That’s when most theatres for most shows will be open. Any time earlier, and you’ll be standing outside. There will probably be a gnarly line outside the theatre before that but don’t let that scare you. The lines move super fast. So unless you absolutely have to be the first person in there, no need to stand in that long line for too long. You’ll pass through a metal detector and may have your bag visually inspected by security. Then they’ll usher you into the lobby/theatre, where your ticket will be scanned by ushers. Just follow the instructions of the ushers on where to sit. Keep your ticket out the whole time til you get to your seat because you’ll need to show it a few times. Try to use the bathroom before the show starts. Hamilton is long though it does have a 20 minute intermission about halfway through. The lines for the women’s restroom can get insane (but usually staff will be managing the line to get everybody into the theatre on time). Expect some sticker shock if you get concessions or merch. And no, the CD that they’re selling at the merch stand will not be a recording of the cast you’re seeing (I didn’t know this for my first show and wish I had). The cast on that recording will be the original Broadway company. Honestly, probably just skip the merch altogether unless there is something special you really want. A lot of it you can find elsewhere online for cheaper, especially with this show. No dress code though most folks will probably be dressed business casual. Jeans and t-shirts are fine. The only major no-no is don’t wear anything that will block somebody else’s view or otherwise be too distracting. But even then, that’s just a matter of courtesy, not a matter of an actual house rule. Don’t sing and dance along to the show. People paid to see the performers do that. Stay til the completion of the bows and if you can, til the end of any curtain speeches. Bring earplugs if you or anyone in your party is sensitive to loud noise. Hamilton has plenty of it. I recommend Loops, personally. No flash photography, or photography of any kind, or videoing, during the performance. Sometimes you can get away with these things during the bows. That is going to be show dependent though. Most times, you can snap a quick photo of your playbill and the curtain before the start of the show. It’s technically illegal but productions have laxed the rules on that. But bootlegging is still very illegal. The stagedoor to Hamilton (if you’re into such things) is right outside the main entrance. There will be barricades set up so should be easy to find. Don’t fall for the pedicab scams (sometimes they’ll be parked and swarming like vultures around the theatre exit at the end of shows). Unless you like paying a minimum of $100 to travel 60 seconds down the road with blaring music in your ear. Also don’t get into any black “ubers” or “taxis” that you did not order (another scam). All NYC licensed taxis are yellow.

No dress code. Just be comfortable and don’t block anyone’s view. Bags generally need to fit under your seat/at your feet. Personally I like to arrive 30 minutes before to get in the door, go to the bathroom, get a drink, and buy merch. Have fun!
