Rigid Core
Rigid core stands up to the chaos of pets, kids, and the hustle and bustle of a busy home. It’s extremely scratch and dent resistant, and completely waterproof*. This combination ensures that your rigid core floor will stay beautiful for years to come.
Is rigid core vinyl plank a better choice for imperfect floors?
Well you have some options and it depends on your budget. Use self leveller and get it to manufacturer tolerance for click vinyl. That way you will have a warranty on the product. This will be the most expensive way to go Don’t level, install click lvp and have the joints fail after a bit and have floor look like crap after first renter and then have to redo it. Cheap now but more expensive in ling run If you don’t want to pay for levelling and don’t mind seeing some deflection in flooring, go with a glue down lvp. They have some good 5mm thick ones that have a 20ml wear layer that are reasonably priced. Use a releasable adhesive so you can easily swap damaged planks out after each renter. Hope this helps More on reddit.com
Potential Issues with Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Plank
I laid 2000 sqft in my house this year. It’s great product. No need to acclimate - the issue you’re experiencing is with your subfloor. Since this stuff floats, if the subfloor is not level, it will dip into the low spots when you step on it. A small dip isn’t a big deal, but if large enough it can cause boards to pop out. Difference between Solid Polymer Core and Waterproof Foam Core
I install a lot of SPC. Some WPC, the price point deters a lot, most people are putting this in a basement they don’t use. The WPC feels much nicer underfoot, and feels like it will last longer. (Especially floating) SPC is harder and more durable but the locks tend to snap easier, whereas the WPC can sustain more deflection without failing. If your subfloor is perfect both are fine, but I would personally put WPC in my own home over SPC. More on reddit.com
Thoughts on this vinyl flooring from Floor & Decor?
Floor&Decor like HD or Lowes has good and bad product. They source from the same companies & places everyone else does. There really aren't that many places this stuff is made... The devil is in the details. See if you can find the real manufacturer name on the nucore box. If you want SPC make sure your prep is really flat and solid. If your floor is a little wonky get wpc that can flex. Get 6mm - 8mm total thickness and no less than a 12mil wear layer. I've used 12 and 20 and honestly both look the same after 2 years and I have a 40lb cattle dog. Repetition wise if you get EIR / IRE you'll have a nicer looking product but less repetition. 4 unique planks with flipped versions is usually enough if you lay it right to avoid repeat. Watch out for designs with very distinctive knots... Those can really be glaring when repeated. Backing according to everyone I've asked doesn't matter, but foam is less likely to have issues and cork is quieter. Good luck. More on reddit.com

r/Flooring on Reddit: Is rigid core vinyl plank a better choice for imperfect floors?
May 13, 2025 -
Hi all, I have a renovation I'm doing where I tore out decades of old flooring all the way down to the plank subfloor. Despite my best efforts with joist repair and putting a new layer of plywood down the floor still has it's ups and downs. I am curious if a rigid core vinyl with attached backer is the best option to deal with that? The tolerance that manufacturers list on planks is not very generous but I'm hoping with the rigid core stuff (I'm thinking lifeproof from HD) will lay down across any unlevel areas but not with an obvious telegraph. It's going to be a rental so the 22 mil wear layer will help too. Thanks.

That would be the opposite of what you want to do. If you can't be bothered to flatten it then put down 1/4 underlayment and use flexible glue down
