Hello. This is my first time posting on this Reddit so first of all thank you for reading my post.
I'm new to photography using lighting setups and to start easy i recently purchased a ring light which has a lot of features for a beginner like me. The main ones being the strength of the light as in 1-100% as well as the temperature which i think is called the kelvin value according to Google? Could be wrong, English is not my native language.
I am used to shooting portraits during the golden hour outside but not so much indoor shots yet and i mainly do portraits/self portraits.
I experimented a bit with it yesterday but i personally feel that the picture almost came out washed out and my skin tone wasn't flattering at all, one could almost see every tiny blemish or pore which is not something I'm after.
I found this Guide explaining it somewhat but i just wanted to doublecheck with some actual people who know their stuff! https://spectrum-brand.com/blogs/news/colour-of-lighting-and-make-up-the-facts
I think i used something like 4600K as well as the 100% strength setting which just looked super cold and washed out and way too detailed. I shot using a 50MM on my canon 200d and was fairly close to the camera.
Would really want to learn how to use this thing and get some good results. Any answers and advice you can give me is super appreciated! I am 100% self taught so no answer is "too dumb" for me since I'm a total beginner.
Thanks for reading and happy new year.
