With a 100% rotten tomatoes score and a near to 8 Imdb user review score, Do you think Netflix renewed the show so quickly to go on a campaign for awards such EMMYS, Spirit e.t.c? It does have exceptional cinematography, cast ensemble, costumes and music after all, it would be well deserved

Well those things might be a factor I don’t believe it is the main factors. it’s not actually a Netflix show. Netflix provides some funding. It’s not a surprise that they waited to renew this show until a couple of days ago. The show was co-produced by cbc (Canadas public broadcaster) and Aptn (aboriginal people’s television network). The Canadian election happened the other day and the leader (our mini trump) of the opposition (conservative) party vowed to defund the cbc if he was elected because it was left when propaganda. He said he was going to cut federal funding from 1.4 billion to 400 million. This would have killed cbc. The liberals ended up winning yesterday. If the conservatives would have won cbc would have been defunded and would not be able to produce this show anymore, likely leading to its cancellation. In the last couple of days a few cbc shows have also been renewed while it seemed like renewal happened fast the show actually aired in Jan and Feb on cbc in Canada. the show did very well on cbc and ultimately that’s the main thing. While it’s very good it also did well on Netflix. If it didn’t do well on CBC it would be cancelled regardless of how well it did on Netflix. Ex) Anne with an E. This was also a coproduced cbc show. However, it was not meeting target demographics here but was doing great on Netflix. The worldwide popularity does not benefit cbc as much and was cancelled. CBC makes some great shows. I’m glad this is back for season 2. I’m hoping that since it did well on both Netflix and cbc, this means a larger budget. A larger budget means more episodes. A lot of cbc shows get an order of 10-13 episodes, so hopefully that’s the case here. Since it gets aired on traditional tv, in addition to their streaming services, I don’t think the episodes will be longer than the usual 22 minutes. More on reddit.com
