There's a company called TSMC that makes all the advanced chip technology in the world. To make a better chip, you need to do at least one of the following: Bigger Cheaper More advanced Every few years, TSMC makes a new factory which makes more advanced chips, and then the old factories become cheaper. In 2018 TSMC made a factory. In 2019 AMD moved from using their old machines, to using this TSMC factory. This factory produced Ryzen 3000-5000 (except 3000G), and RX 5000-7000 (except the 7900). Here things like size played a big role. An RX 6500 for example is actually worse than an RX 5500. An RX 7600 is a roughly in the RX 6600-6700 performance levels. However this gave AMD a significant manufacturing advantage over Intel allowing them to beat Intel performance. In 2020 TSMC made a new factory. This factory makes Nvidia RTX 40 & 50. It also makes Ryzen 7000-9000 and the RX 7900 series. Because RTX 50 is made in the same factory with the same technology, most likely to make it better it will probably be: RTX 5090 - bigger - more watts, more RAM, more cores Other SKUs - bigger and/or better value. Maybe 4090 performance at a 4080 price. Maybe 4080 performance at a 4070 price. Unfortunately AMD forgot that memo. Reviewing Ryzen 9000: It's not bigger It's more expensive, not cheaper It's made in the same factory with the same technology So it's not really better than Ryzen 7000. In my opinion, AMD could have rectified this with more cores and better pricing. $300 for a 6 core CPU in 2024 is insane. If they made an 8 core 9600X for $250 - that could have been great. 9000X3D has 2 chances because: AMD could go bigger adding bigger X3D cache to more cores AMD could sabotage the 7800X3D forcing people to buy 9000 for the holiday season so they can show their shareholders that 9000 was not a complete failure But now Intel has pulled an Uno reverse card. Intel is giving up and switching to TSMC's newest 2023 factory this month. This will be the first time since around 2016-2017 that Intel will have a significant manufacturing advantage over AMD. The new Intel CPUs will be made in the same factory with the same technology that AMD will be using in 2026. In 6 months to 1 year - all new parts will be the norm. The ryzen 8000 series is not a direct upgrade over the 7000 series. It has half the L3 cache which is bad if you want to get it for gaming. Although the 8000 series is a monolithic design while the 7000 is chiplet design, meaning the 8000series can run higher memory frequencies and fclk in 1:1 mode (uclk/mclk). The 7500F can be had for about 70% of the cost of the 8700F making it a better value. If you want a 8 core processor for the price of the 8700F, get the ryzen 7700. It also has 5.3ghz boost clock instead of 5.0ghz for the other two cpus. More on reddit.com

The 8000 series CPUs have better integrated graphics. If you're building a gaming PC with a dedicated GPU, you don't need the integrated graphics, and 7000 are better performing CPUs. More on reddit.com
