For that use case practically any GPU you can find. If you want something light and practical, the old GT1030 would do. In which case the PSU is hugely overpowered, bordering on inefficiency putting such a light load on it. Quadro P1000 would be another low power option. You should be looking for a quality 550W PSU to save some money. Though that 750W might be a decent deal all things considered. I know the SHIFT units often come in under because of their sideways cables. UPS won't need to be too big in that case. But a lot depends on how much battery time you want. If it is just a few minutes to safely shut down, than a 750VA unit might do. 1000VA if you want a little more upgradeability. For a monitor, I would probably go with a low end 4K display? That would give you plenty of real estate for monitoring various things. If not, any cheap IPS 1080p 75hz display these days would be my recommendation. The price gap between the 5900X and even the 5950X isn't all that big. And not much more, at least CPU cost, than the 7900X. DDR5 and an AM5 board will be more, but certainly the faster CPU and bandwidth will pay off in the end. Answer from Eximo on forums.tomshardware.com

Best motherboard for ryzen 9 5900X
There's many ways to look at a motherboard. YouTubers who have overclocking competitions typically only look at the voltage regulators. The AM4 socket itself on all motherboards is designed to deliver 142 watts, and this limit seriously limits the overclocking ability of the 5900x and 5950x. This was why AM5 moved from PGA to LGA to add more pins to up it to 230 watts. All B550 motherboards support PCIe 4.0 and resizable-BAR which is all you need for the best performance with a 3070 Ti. If we compare the MSI B550 Gaming Plus to a $80 motherboard, it has 4 features: ARGB Better VRMs ATX form factor: Adds Dual M.2 + 1 PCIe X1 USB C Front Panel If you wanted something like a higher quality motherboard (6 PCB layers/50% more copper) with WIFi, a better Ethernet LAN, better Audio, USB 4/Thunderbolt, then it would be worth considering an upgrade. In my opinion the very best motherboard is the ASUS B550-XE STRIX which I personally use. The 5900x and 5950x are awesome CPUs, but are really targeted more to workstations than everyday or gaming PCs. For a gaming PC the 5800X3D is a better choice. For an everyday PC a 5600 is good enough, and a 5700x is plenty overkill. More on reddit.com

i use a 5900x myself for most of the same uses. lots of virtual machines/networks and generally as much stuff running as i can use at one time :) i started with 32gb ram myself but ended up upping it to 64gb. your needs will depend on how much ram your vm's will need and of course how many you plan to run at one time. i started with mostly idle/light workstations that need little resources. but once you start having multiple vm's actually working, you'll want more ram for each one. you won't need much of a gpu for office type work so i'd just grab whatever is a decent price and can handle multiple monitors you'll probably use. i had a 1650 super that only just got replaced and it was more than ample for just displaying the many screens.

Question - Issues with upgrading to a Ryzen 9 5900X ? | Tom's Hardware Forum
December 29, 2024 - I would not consider using the 5900X with that motherboard. Even if it did boot, the VRM are going to be severely overtaxed. In this case it is suggested to return that CPU and consider moving up to AM5 or something on a new platform. Even if you got a better motherboard, you will likely need ...

r/buildapc on Reddit: Best motherboard for ryzen 9 5900X
October 8, 2022 -

Hello guys! I recently upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 9 5900x and my GPU to a 3070ti, but not sure if my motherboard can handle that. I have an MSI Gaming Plus B550, should I upgrade the motherboard or I’ll do fine?

  • I want to get all the performance from my pc for gaming and 3D

  • Stable overclock (Nothing hardcore)
