Marketing attribution tracking and ROI in Salesforce
Hey OP, Pardot Consultant here. I can try to help. Part One: UTMs First, can you help me understand why the scripts are not working? IIs it not populating the field and sending the data into Pardot? Is the data it's collecting not working for your team? I'll share some high level responses to help in the meantime: In my current project, we are solving for this by using out of the box features. Essentially, we have a URL ( example.com/abc?FieldName1=value&FieldName2=value ) and Hidden fields on the form (FieldName1 & FieldName2). We do not use a script, and these fields get filled and sent into Pardot upon submission. The downside to this solution is that if someone errors when submitting a form or removed the UTMs, these values are lost. I've also seen solutions that use javascript to pass values, without using UTMs. This is cool but heavy to maintain for Pardot Admins. Jenna Molby has a great resource that I've used numerous time for UTMs and Pardot: https://thespotforpardot.com/2021/01/12/the-ultimate-guide-to-capturing-utm-parameters-in-pardot/ If you haven't seen this resource, I recommend reading it and sharing with your team. Part Two: Marketing Attribution One piece of the puzzle that can be tricky is getting the UTM data from Pardot into Salesforce. Due to the field values being overridden with new data, you can lose data and be unable to report on it. What does this part of the solution look like for you currently? In my current project, we have built automation (Engagement Studio + Marketing App Extension + SF Flow) to pass the UTM data into the Lead/Contact and then into a new related record, as soon as it's collected. This allows us to report back on all the UTM data per person, and create attribution reporting. If you are not familiar with Customizable Campaign Influence, it's something you'll absolutely want to learn about. It's how Pardot does Marketing Attribution, and it comes out of the box. Here's a Support article to learn more: https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.campaigns_influence_customizable_understanding.htm&type=5 Here's a more in-depth guide as well: https://www.salesforceben.com/the-drip/salesforce-campaign-influence-marketers-guide/ Customizable Campaign Influence is built upon using Campaigns to track attribution, so you'll need to determine how your Campaign structure can support your collection of UTMs. I've seen this done a lot of ways, so take your time here. I hope this helps and shared some new-to-you information (so you can get some sleep at night lol). Let me know what questions you have! More on reddit.com

Help calculating ROI
All right, here we go. First of all, to decide if a business is worth buying on it's own, the roi is not what you want to look at. It's used for comparing different options in terms of their returns over 10 years. This makes sense, because once the interest is paid off, and you continue making money with it, your return of the initial investment will look much brighter, Allright? So, to calculate the roi over 10 years I would use the total price of the business, no matter the financing method. For the roi calculation, you can see it as additional cost because you don't have the money up front. So the price is 2mn, because that's what you actually pay. The earnings you will have over 10 years is 1mn, so you would actually have a negative roi. So key point to take from the roi calculation is, do not buy unless you can operate at least 20 years with the same profitability or you double profitability. However, this is a much too simple approach to this decision!! You said yourself that this business could grow in profit. Also, the other user pointed out that the business does hold value in itself. Also, roi does not imply that money changes its value over time (not just due to inflation, but also that money you have now is worth more than what you will have in the future) The most basic thing to do is to actually define the value of the business using an internal valuation approach. Calculate the value using dcf would be best for your case I think (may vary if price includes VERY expensive assets, such as machinery for production or similar that you will be able to sell in the future) There are online calculators, such as here: https://www.dinkytown.net/java/BusinessValuation.html# but they are often not very detailed. Still might be a viable first view. Problem here is that growth is fixed for example and you need to calculate wacc on your own. I used this calculator at 6% growth and 7% weighted capital cost (you want to earn more from your business than the 5.6 percent for the bank, right?) with the free cash flow you provided and 10 years run time. This values the business at a bit over 800k in today's money. (please note that this result is similar to what we calculated in the roi calculation above!) Also, you will need to pay more than the business is worth right now because the owner wants to make a profit. 30% over value is max you should go for. Ofc these are just my guesses. Your wacc could be a lot lower (it won't change that much, even at 5.6%), or your growth could be higher. This is the key factor. Have a look at past growth rates. Think about what factors made this growth happen. Think about what will happen to those factors and how this will impact future growth. Do another dcf valuation of the business using variable growth rates. Given operation for 10 years, the business should be in range of 20% annual growth. If you think the business will continue as is for 20 years, this number can be as low as 6 percent. It all depends on the specifics of the business and how stable the industry is. If the business did not have noteworthy growth in the past, it does not hold any value and you should pass If this is not just play money for you, talk to a managment consultant or an investment knowledgeable person to help you with the specifics of determining growth rates, forecasting them and doing the dcf for you, or even better with you. It will cost some money for sure but it will be a lot less expensive than buying a bussinnes for 2mn only worth 800k More on reddit.com
