Sam Worthington was born on August 2, 1976, in Godalming, Surrey, England, to British parents Jeanne J. Worthington (née Martyn), a housewife, and Ronald W. Worthington, a power plant labourer.247 The family moved to Perth, Western Australia, when he was six months old, and he was raised in Warnbro, a suburb of Rockingham.247 He has one sister named Lucinda.247

Worthington is married to model Lara Bingle, whom he wed on December 28, 2014, in a private ceremony in Melbourne.89 The couple has three sons together: Rocket, born in March 2015; Racer, born in 2017; and River.8910 The family has prioritized maintaining a normal life, with the couple moving to New York partly due to stricter paparazzi laws compared to Los Angeles.8 Lara Worthington has also been active in philanthropy, rebranding her cosmetics company, The Base, into a nonprofit called Share The Base, which donates 100% of net proceeds to charity.8
